As mentioned in my previous post, I was hunting for affordable steaks and after leaving Siang @Sogo KL (check out my dim sum meal here) we were still feeling peckish so Karen suggested “some meat” for dinner.
The Ship was just on our way to the carpark.
The Ship used to be “THE place” for steaks. Despite the current competitive space for steak houses in KL/PJ, The Ship still enjoys regular patronage from both new and loyal customers. No doubt it had amassed a loyal clientèle over its 3 decades in business and continues to enjoy its status of the pioneer steakhouse.
While new steakhouses offers dry/wet aged beef, wagyu, kobe and all other manners of meat, The Ship kept to its menu and continued serving its steaks with sauce, Chicken Maryland and Chicken Chop.
There’s no mistaking the façade of The Ship.
The unique exterior of its restaurant resemble an almost life-size hull of a ship, and on stepping inside one will be impressed with the finely recreated likeness of a sea-going vessel.
To complement its exteriors and interior, the service staff is all suited out in smart maritime uniform.
So in short, other than tasty food, the ambiance is great as well!
While the appetizers and soups are tempting, we dived right into the meats during our visit.
The Chicken Maryland (RM25.90) consists of a big deep fried chicken with a banana fritter, sausage as well as generous sides of fries and vegetables.
Though the items are deep fried, neither the chicken nor the fritter was overly greasy. In fact, the crumb was nicely crispy and the chicken moist and juicy.
We requested for medium rare for both our Black Pepper Lamb (RM44.90) and Charbroiled Rib Eye Steak (RM59.90) and both came cooked as requested.
Similar sides circled the lamb but the steak had a baked potato, corn on cob, broccoli plus additional sides of buns and butter as well as a fresh salad.
Grilled Premium Lamb Chop – RM42.90.
Charbroiled Rib Eye Steak (RM59.90) .
For drinks, a wide variety of fresh juices, soft drinks and mocktails are available.

i do have fond memories of the ship from years/decades ago, and i guess many others can also be thankful for similarly fond memories here. here’s hoping it stays afloat for many more years 🙂
Yes, The Ship does have its own charms. Even the food is “The Ship”, not just any other steakhouse kind 🙂
Psst…I think it’s Pertama. 🙂
LOL! I’ll take your word for it. You work there after all! 😛
