Truth to be told, I do not believe in true love and all that jazz.
Yet I absolutely adore light-hearted, silly, preposterous romantic comedies. There are (at least to me) antidotes to the jaded worn soul, a stress-reliever after a long day/week’s work & it provides the excuse for one to laugh hysterically, which IMHO, the best medicine one should have at disposal in keeping all illnesses at bay.
Yes, When In Rome is predictable. But it’s still a pleasant comedic fantasy. Reviews were hard, and most were entirely unfavourable, citing it as a silly, shallow & painful; given the agony induced by this godawful comedy
I read those reviews with amusement, for I opined that there were worse comedies made, such as the American Pie series & Stephan Chow “Shaolin Soccer”, all of which were tacky & unrealistic.
At least ‘When in Rome’ didn’t try too hard, and the whole story was kept simple & straightforward. One should just go, sit back & be entertained. After all, isn’t that what’s watching a movie is about?
Beth (Kirsten Bell) is a young, ambitious New Yorker who is completely unlucky in love. However, on a whirlwind trip to Rome, she impulsively steals some coins from a reputed fountain of love, and is then aggressively pursued by a band of suitors whose coins she had taken.
4 of them were misfits & provided most of the laughs for the show. Josh Duhamel, however, provided the eye candy.
Already a likeable face, and coupled with an easy role, he carried his part well.
Movie: When In Rome
Director: Mark Steven Johnson
Genre: Comedy/ Romance – I totally dig such shows!!! 😛
Mains actors/actresses:
Kristen Bell … Beth
Josh Duhamel … Nick
Anjelica Huston … Celeste
It is really good to see Kirsten Bell in less bimbo-ish roles (her previous movies being Forgetting Sarah Marshall & Couples Retreat). Here, at least she “acted” rather than just a pretty face spurting monotone dialogues.
On a really “girly” note, her wardrobe was really chic & the fashion was very appealing. Yeah, I do think I need some clothes like that! 😀
Well, When In Rome, do as the Romans do. Hence when you are watching a comedy, enjoy it as a comedy. Don’t expect too much, just do remember to relax & to laugh your socks off 😛
ps: Thanks to Churp Churp for the tickets!
i actually like the american pie series! 😀 but yeah, romantic comedies are a lot of fun. if only real life could have fairy-tale endings like that =)

I liked her in…argh, what’s that TV show called? Oh! Veronica Mars! She was awesome there, and in Heroes, too. I don’t believe in true love, either, which is why I like romantic comedies…you get to laugh at those fools who actually think soul mates exist.
Oh! I haven’t watched any Veronica Mars!
and haaha..yea..soul mates.. wonder where anyone gets that idea from!
Chis! You the one running of for all the reviews at odd times of day 😛 If there are no cars overturning, lightsabers or shots being fired, it’s not a movie! :p
