If you’re going to grab some of the amazing durian mooncakes by Concorde Hotel KL (read about them here –> https://www.rebeccasaw.com/fabulous-durian-mooncakes-concorde-hotel-kuala-lumpur/) do add some of their traditional baked mooncakes into the bag as well.
Concorde Hotel Snowskin Musang King: Each 180g nos cost RM42 or get them at RM168 for 4 nos.
These Concorde’s snowskin with Musang King Durian boasts of 120g of pure durian pulp per mooncake. You know you’re getting the real deal the moment you cut one open and its full-bodied, pungent scent assaulted your senses.
The snowskin is thin, mildly sweet and complements the sweet, creamy pulp.
And for 2014, Concorde Hotel’s mooncake boxes are convert-able functional lanterns and comes with a lightbulb ready in box. A mere 5 mins is required to assemble the lantern. 🙂
Choose one of these intricately hand-made lacquer lanterns which comes in 2 sizes and in 5 bright hues of red, pink, green, blue, orange.
I opted for a red one of course. 🙂
Other than the scrumptious Musang King, I sampled 4 of their baked mooncakes this year; the Lotus with Single Yolk, Pandan with Single Yolk, Black Sesame Seed with White Lotus and the Azuki Red Bean.
The Japanese Red Bean is my favourite! I don’t usually gush about red beans but these are made from azuki beans (since it’s named Japanese red bean) so it is mildly sweet and it has that lovely azuki bean flavour.
For those familiar with the common red beans and the Japanese red bean, you will be able to taste the difference! And just like me, you will appreciate the Japanese Red bean mooncake.
I usually won’t crave for a red bean mooncake but I finished this WHOLE mooncake by myself! 🙂
Next is the hybrid of black sesame seed and white lotus.
There’s nothing not to like about nutty black sesame seed paste and smooth, low sugar white lotus.
And like all the rest of the baked mooncakes, the pastry skin is thin and non-oily.
Pandan Lotus with Single Yolk. I love anything pandan, but it must be using real pandan leaves extract and richly aromatic of course; which this mooncake totally fits the bill. Thumbs up!!
