Steaks are one of my personal favourite food.
And since price is never an issue for me (unless it’s unjustifiably pricey for the quality offered) I can be selective of the meat (cut, type and cattle breed) and the places where I eat my steaks.
But when Tony Roma’s launched their Raises the “Steaks” promo and I was given the opportunity to sample the new steaks, I couldn’t resist accepting the invite.
I had thought that it would be marvelous news to share on my blog since good affordable steaks are something that my friends and readers are always keen to know of.
Stomach rumbling, I flipped the menu of the new promo. It is basically 4 new steaks with 4 new variety of sauce. Each comes with 2 sides which are the standard ones from their ala-carte menu.
Filet Medallions with Mushroom Sauce – Flame grilled filet medallions topped with a rich mushroom sauce. Served with a choice of two sides. Price: RM69.90
Ribeye Steak with Roasted Onion Sauce – A flame grilled ribeye steak topped with homemade roasted onion sauce with a hint of lemon pepper. Served with a choice of two sides. Price: RM63.90.
New York Strip with Peppered Beef Bacon and Asparagus Relish – A flame grilled New York Strip topped with peppered beef bacon and asparagus relish and glazed with white balsamic glaze. Served with mashed potatoes. Price: RM63.90.
New York Strip with Roasted Red Pepper Sauce – Flame grilled New York Strip steak topped with a creamy roasted red pepper sauce. Served with a choice of two sides. Price: RM63.90.
My friend and I are close “steak-eating partners”. We like certain cuts. We like them medium rare and we agree on most steaks that we have eaten.
And that evening we agreed that Tony Roma’s steaks are good value for money but they need to know what is “medium rare”. I can send my overdone steaks back to the kitchen but that’s not the point.
If you want to serve steaks, serve them right.
Having said that, we were in one particular outlet out of the many Tony Roma’s in Klang Valley. Bear in mind that it could be a isolated case or other branches may have better quality control.
If it was any consolation, we did like the new red pepper sauce that came with the New York Strip that we ordered.

A range of non-alcoholic Virgin Romaritas at RM14.90 each were launched alongside the new steaks.

· Strawberry Romarita – A strawberry lover’s delight, this non-alcoholic drink comes mixed with strawberry, orange juice, lime sour mix and fresh lime juice shaken with ice. It is served in a sugar-rimmed glass with a strawberry garnish.
