Just hours back Sony launched the VAIO Duo 11 Hybrid Tablet-Ultrabook, T Series 13 and E Series 14P.
But all eyes and attention was on Sony’s pride of the trio – the sleek new VAIO Duo 11 that switches effortlessly between a laptop and a tablet.
As expected of Sony, the design is both aesthetically pleasing and highly functional.
The machine feels solid though it is remarkably slim and light, weighing in at approximately 1.3kg and is only 17.75mm thin.
The VAIO Duo 11 runs on Windows 8 and it has an 11.6” sliding OptiContrast 1920 x 1080 Corning’s Gorilla Glass touch screen which was superbly sharp and clear. The keypad takes some getting used to as it felt pretty cramped. Sony’s patented Surf Slider™ mechanism ensures smooth transition from laptop to tablet and vice versa each time.
The Duo 11 packs the latest Intel 3rd generation Intel Core i5 processors and 4GB DDR3 1600MHz RAM ensuring powerful performance and speed. And it seems that the stylus is really making a comeback. Coupled with the VAIO Duo 11 is a digital stylus created by Sony named the digitizer stylus.
A few videos and a live demo illustrates how it works and it was impressive not to mention fun too!
The Duo 11 also came bundled with some unique apps to enhance its functionality and add to the user experience. Based on the earlier videos and demos alone, I was impressed with how each app integrated seamlessly during use. A picture edited on Active Clip can easily be transferred to PowerPoint and the digital stylus allows immediate notes and comments directly onto the PowerPoint document when in slideshow mode.
The new VAIO Duo 11 will be available in Malaysia beginning of November 2012 and is priced at RM3,999. I’m certainly tempted. Anyone else with me?? :DD
