December is a happy month to be in Singapore.
It is the festive season and the streets, hotels and malls are gaily decorated, the atmosphere overall jovial and there are plenty of activities and attractions.
At Conrad Centennial Singapore, it is that time of the year for their annual, unique Beary Christmas tree to be standing tall and proud in the lobby.
2015 is the final year for the Conrad Bear tree as they will be revealing a new mascot next year so I’m thrilled to be standing beside this darling tree for the first and sadly, last time.
This tree features over 440 of the limited edition plush bears in 4-sizes. These bears are up for adoption and all adoption proceeds will go to the beneficiary Association for Persons with Special Needs (APSN).
I was staying a night at the Executive Room (details on that in a separate post) and one of my meals coincided with the launch of Conrad Centennial Festive Afternoon Tea.
The afternoon tea is an on-going feature at Lobby Lounge but the festive menu includes a whole turkey and many Christmas-sy desserts.
For SGD60++/adult and SGD30++ (6-12 yo), it is almost like a full buffet with 3 types of oysters, sushi, fresh seafood on ice and yes, let’s not forget the turkey!
For drinks, it is not just coffee and tea, but free-flow SANGRIA as well. For tea connoisseurs, loose-leaf fine Ronnefeldt teas to choose from.
There is no reason to refrain from a tipple or two, though of course that would be additional charges.
Savouries:
I recommend the roast beef tenderloin, the grilled scallops, the oysters, the fresh seafood on ice, the and the turkey with the sides of bacon and cranberry sauce.
For the hot food, it is best to grab them when they are replenished as the ones that are left on display for sometime tend to lose moisture and get cold.
However the floor staff and the chef is always around so you can always request for them to serve you freshly prepared ones like I did.
The fresh items were not a problem as everything was fresh. Vivian enjoyed 2 platefuls of fresh sweet prawns and pronounced her satisfaction.
I first eyed the sushi table with delight as I enjoyed them before at Oscar’s lunch buffet but the ones displayed here looked ‘dried out’ and thus somewhat unappetizing. I think serving these in a more compact tray and having all of them clustered together would have worked better.
Well, in a buffet, choose wisely if the stomach space is limited. I do not eat a lot in one meal, but I get hungry every 3 -4 hours hence I grazed on quality ingredients at each meal.
For this tea, I devoured many slices of juicy tenderloin, plump scallops and licked clean numerous dainty portions of king crab salad with siracha espuma. Those were marvelous really, so sweet and fresh and I didn’t even have to deal with pesky crab shells.
There was also a crab with japanese mayo, lime and salmon roe sandwich which I shamelessly wiped clean half the tray.
Sweets:
The array of Chocolate Truffles and a chocolate fondue are a chocoholic’s dream. Over at the Waffle live cooking station you can customise your waffle with a myriad of toppings.
The cakes selection are fair for a buffet and in view of the Christmas season we enjoyed log cakes infused with alcohol, festive cookies together with the usual suspect of sliced cakes and tarts.
Like what you see?
Reservations can be made via +65 6432 7483 or email [email protected].
If you would like to enjoy a compact selection of tea time treats minus the buffet, do check out their afternoon tea sets as well. Those tier tea sets are about SGD28++ per pax and includes a selection of both savoury and sweet treats.
