On 13th of December Love A Loaf, a Frénch inspired bakery in PENANG launched their croissant lava series.
Naturally I alerted my godsis in Penang about it.
Oh my, the salted egg yolk craze had landed in Penang! I had said.
She was excited and got her hubby to zoom over on 2 wheels to grab some as soon as he could.
I asked for her verdict of course, and being Penang-lang (born and bred in Penang) I trust her tastebuds.
We practically grew up together for a decade back when I was in Penang, and thus she is well aware of my standards.
So does the photos of the croissants look good?
Well Min Sing said they were good croissants, but for the salted egg yolk filling it wasn’t as savoury or salted as it should be.
Disappointingly, it was more on the sweet side though Min Sing did say it has a bit of a sandy (grainy) texture.
The pricing stayed similar to those in KL @ RM6.50 each.
More about Love A Loaf:
Naturally for a bakery that prides itself on being ‘”French” inspired’ one would expect their pastries; specifically the croissants and danishes to be of a certain level of standard.
Their croissants are also available as savoury croissant-wich on their menu since the bakery is also a cosy cafe.
I did a bit of snooping around, and friends in Penang had confirmed that the breads and cakes are actually quite good, and they even offer a low sugar, low oil Euro series, part of their “healthier” loaves repertoire.
So it looks like Love A Loaf is worth a visit though the salted egg yolk croissant may not be up to standard.
Well Penang folks, I’ll be in Penang soon so you can order your salted egg yolk croissants from me alright? I’ll hand-carry some from KL for you!
