REVIEW & RESULTS – Clique Clinic: Q-Switched Laser + ZO Medical skin lightening system

In continuation of my previous post on my Q-Switched procedure, this is my conclusion after 9 sessions.

You will find below more information of the after-care procedure, images of subsequent treatments and a recap of what Q-Switched Laser is about as well.
** Do read my previous post for the start of my Q-Switched transformation –>

As mentioned in my earlier post, I begun to see results after the 5th session. My end goal for Q-Switch was to achieve clear, unblemished skin.

The Q-Switched laser is supposedly the treatment for this objective as the Q-Switched is recommended specifically for treating sun/brown spots, freckles, small scars and uneven pigmentation.

How it works is via a laser device which delivers clinical laser quickly with intense energy.
The laser pulse is absorbed by melanin (in the skin), thus breaking down the pigments into smaller fragments and eliminated by the body’s natural lymphatic system.

REVIEW and RESULTS of the Q - Switched laser-001

It is painless and there is no downtime.
FDA approved, Q-Switched laser treatments are able to naturally fade off the hyper-pigmentation.
It is an effective tool for pigmentation treatment and also for facial rejuvenation, to minimize pores and decrease the appearance of fine lines and even out skin tone.

The end result should be radiant skin, even skin tone and a younger, lifted appearance.

So did I managed to attain my desired goal?

Happily enough, the answer is a yes.

As my skin (on my face) is pretty clear to begin with (and thus not really noticeable on camera), you might not be able to notice much difference. However, my reflection each day reminded me of my much improved complexion; and I’m really thrilled to bid goodbye to my brown spots.

However, as I’ve said before, Q-Switched laser provides noticeable results only after the 5th session so it is advisable to budget your time and resources for a minimum of 7 – 10 sessions.

Let me recap:

Helio III 4G Laser Treatment:

This machine produces 2 (TWO) specific wavelengths of light (1064nm/532nm) that is absorbed by pigmented lesions.
** Pigmented lesions refers to small marks from sun exposure which we know as brown spots/freckles/birthmarks.

The light vibrates and shatters the pigment, breaking the melanin into micro-particles.

It effectively treats pigments settled at various depths of the skin. With that, it does not only reduce the treatment time but also increase efficacy of the treatment.

I’ve gone into detail of my each visit back here (click to see the pictures) so this post would be just a recap of the first 5 sessions and the last 4 sessions.

The machine used:

For the 3 months that I was undergoing Q-Switched at Clique Clinic, I was advised to use this ZO Medical skincare system set plus the Clique Super Serum which I’ve been applying diligently for the past 6 months.

The method of use is straightforward though one has to keep in mind on the sequence of use.

clique clinic - Obagi skin lightening system-002

With over 20 years as a board-certified dermatologist and skincare pioneer, Dr. Obagi had revolutionized the skin care industry with a line of prescription-strength anti-aging products that have become the gold-standard for results-oriented skin care.

ZO Skin Health has two lines under them- ZO Medical and ZO Skin Health. ZO Medical products target and treat current skin problems, while ZO Skin Health line is more for maintenance.
To know which products to use, you MUST ask a dermatologist or for those of us in the Klang Valley, do refer to Dr Lim, Dr Bob or Dr Nigel at Clique.

The ZO Medical skincare system works best as a set of related products for a specific skin requirement.
For me, I used the Clique Super Serum, the ZO Medical GlycogentZO Medical Melamin and the ZO Medical Melamix.

1. ZO Medical Glycogent: Exfoliation Accelerator.

This product contains alpha hydroxyl acids (AHAs).
It basically speeds up the exfoliation process, so expect your skin to peel a bit. However mine didn’t.
The goal of this product is to reduce acne or inflammation and correct pigmentation. It also has potent glycolic and lactic acid complex provides skin surface renewal.
It does make your skin more sensitive to the sun, so you should always use a good sunscreen.

2. ZO Medical Melamin: Skin Bleaching and Correcting Creme.

This formulation has 4% hydroquinone which targets hyper-pigmentation. It inhibits melanin production to even skin color and tone.

3. ZO Medical Melamix: Skin Lightener and Blending Creme.

Another 4% hydroquinone bleaching cream which also helps in reducing the appearance of chloasma, melasma, and freckles.

Session FIVE: 15th Sept 2015.

The very next day I had breakouts again though it went off after 3 days.
It was the same; red spots, a few pimples and itchiness on the forehead and chin.

Here is a diagram to explain them all:

The 3rd G RED one is suitable for those who are past their 4- 5th Q-Switched sessions.
The attending doctor will decide if this is needed based on the results of earlier Q-Switched sessions.

Another is the 2 G – BLUE Toning one which is of the lasers which emits the strongest pulse to break down stubborn melanin.

BLUE - REVIEW and RESULTS of Q - Switched laser-001

After my last Q-Switched session in late November I’ve diligently used the ZO Medical range (as above) and I’ve not done any further facials or treatments.

Recently in March 2016, I was suggested a new procedure which is in line in my goals of achieving flawless and younger skin on the face – the Glow Pro Treatment; a Clique Clinic’s special treatment using your autologous platelet-rich Plasma to regenerate and rejuvenate skin and complexion, without causing downtime (e.g. bruising, swelling, etc) following the injection of plasma to the skin.

Sounds cool? Or crazy?
Well, read my post to find out more. I’ve (as usual) wrote a detailed article with images!

Q-Switched is RM4200 for 10 sessions.
Duration: 15 – 20 minutes, including a face wash prior to procedure and application of moisturiser and sunscreen afterwards.
Maintenance: While scientific studies have proven the effectiveness of Q-Switch laser in combating hyper-pigmentation, the consistent usage of sunscreen is vital to maintain good skin.

In a nutshell: What does Q-Switched do?

The Q-switched laser is used to remove unwanted brown spots, sun freckles, scars or tattoos from your skin.

The laser is absorbed by coloured pigments such as freckles, sun spots and age spots in the skin.

The light vibrates and shatters the pigment, breaking the melanin into micro-particles which are naturally cleared away (absorbed and eliminated) by the body and skin.
