The Bubur Lambuk here at Checkers Café is simply divine. Thick, robust and full flavoured, I’ll glad put in kitchen hours for free if the Chef will would share the recipe. 😀
The Silka Hotel group offers GREAT Ramadan buffets for really decent prices. I have been a follower of their buka puasa buffets (though their invites has been inconsistent) at Maytower Silka Hotel and Dorsett Regency KL (on Jalan Imbi, opposite Ritz Carlton) and for less than RM100 per pax, the food is pretty satisfying!
Anyhow, do check out my previous years’ posting on Ramadan buffets. I normally cover a list of 15 – 20 buka puasa buffets so I can safely say there are some hotels that are worth going and some just a plain waste of money. 🙂

This year, themed as ‘Dapur-dapur Malaysia’, the Ramadan Buffet Dinner at Checkers Café offers diners a spread of authentically prepared Malay cuisines such as the Pasembor Padang Kota, Kerabu Perut Bersantan, Percik Burung Puyuh & Ayam Dara, Nasu Kerabu Bunga Talang, Gulai Ikan Talang Masin dengan Terung, Udang Goreng Bersambal, Lidah Goreng Cili Padi, Hati Goreng Sambal and Rendang Kuala Kangsar, just to mention a few.
For RM70 nett per pax (early bird), you will even get fresh oysters, seafood on ice and SUSHI.
And of course, not to mention the hot items, the meat and seafood grill, the roasted lamb (could be more flavourful) and skewers of beef and chicken satay. Fill up on the noodles, soups and duck/charsiew (pork free of course)/ duck rice too.
Yes, it is a full spread and most items are adeptly prepared.
Too much sinful options? Well, there’s always the greens and the traditional Malay salads which I think should be given more due credit than its western counterparts. Our local salads are so much more interesting in both textures and flavours.
Take this indulgence to a level higher at Checkers Café’s dessert corner – it offers a variety of assorted Malay and Nyonya Kuih, Goreng Pisang, Cempedak, Labu Goreng Bermadu, ice kacang and cendol and home-made cookies, all more than adeptly baked and made.
We love banana fritters and fried potatoes with ice-cream. Well, anything with ice cream actually. 🙂
Fruits may be an afterthought for some but I love a marvellous fruit counter like this; decent variety of both international and local fruits that are both ripe and sweet.
‘Dapur-dapur Malaysia’ Ramadan Buffet Dinner is available from 29 June to 28 July 2014 and its priced at RM90.00++ per person. Early bird vouchers are now on sale at RM70.00nett per person until 28 of June 2014.
