I have said it before and I’ll say it again. Ramadan buffets are quintessential to the Ramadan month.
After Sime Darby Convention Centre, another one that I highly recommend (and I don’t recommend buffets often) is this buka puasa feast at Paya Serai, Hilton Petaling Jaya.
Why?
Again, it is about BOTH quality and quantity. Personally for me it’s quality over anything else but heck if you’re paying RM100++ for a buffet it is perfectly understandable to demand for choices right? đ
The Paya Serai Restaurantâs culinary team is cooking up a storm this fasting month, offering an extravagant buffet with over 300 local delicacies. Traditional kampung delicacies are a must, with state specialities from Penang, Johor, Malacca, Perak and Kedah prominently featured.
The quintessential seafood, sushi, roast lamb and sup tulang are lip-smacking and we had second to third helpings.
BELOW: Really delicious roast lamb. And juicy roast chicken.
Fresh sushi. The sushi selection is small but well made. Fish is fresh and the sushi rice adeptly prepared.
This is the tandoor grill, Mongolian BBQ, satay and seafood/meat grill section.
Load up on Mongolian BBQ prepared ala-minute and fresh seafood plus juicy marinated meats here.
While other buffets typically offer one type of lemang, Paya Serai took the extra mile to offer more. The same can be said for the kerabus (fresh salads). There must have been 15 types on display; all fresh and appetizing.
Similarly the sambals are kick-ass spicy and fresh.
A small touch of middle eastern was much appreciated by this Arabic food lover here. I couldn’t get enough of the hummus!
The culinary team here has thought of everything; even pickles.
As a Penangite, I was happy to see a whole station for Penang Nasi Kandar! The fish head curry is good.
I know this sounds too good to be true but all the curries and hot dishes are delicious; the curries thick and fragrant, the noodles/fried/biryani rice tasty, the vegetables fresh and the seafood (fish/prawns/squids) or meats adeptly prepared. It’s a bonus as well that the sizes of prawns and fish are big!
I know that we all want our money’s worth right? đ
And yes, the desserts here will satisfy both in taste and variety too!
I love the ais kacang station as there are so many ingredients offered! As usual I topped mine with ice cream. It was so good I had 3 bowls. And ruined my appetite for the rest of the evening! Genius me! đ
The generous culinary team even made almost 5 types of lepat (banana leaf wrapped steamed desserts). Truly there’s something for everyone.
From cakes to pastries to creamy durian puree and steamed tapioca, sweet tooth lovers will truly be spoilt for choice.
âThis year, we greatly emphasize on food authenticity in our buffet preparation,â said Chef Ridzuan, âPaya Serai Restaurant has always been recognized for its magnificent spread and this year, we are bringing the dining experience to a whole new level with a smorgasbord of over 300 varieties of âBuka Puasaâ dishes. Now, our loyal diners can savor numerous types of ethnic dishes.
Other than that, we are also preparing a full buffet setup for Ramadhan Sahur, which will be available from 3am to 5am, serving healthy salads, pastries, cereal as well as local dishes,â he continued.
Last but not least, diners will also enjoy a unique dessert experience at Hilton Petaling Jayaâs outdoor Durian Orchard Station.
Fresh durians will be served at the hotelâs porte cochere area every night throughout the fasting month and in keeping with the local tradition, a water station is available for them to âfillâ their empty durian shells and take a few sips to remove any durian after- scent!
All this for the price of RM139++ /pax.
As you enjoy your meal, remember to say hi to this team of 13 chefs who from their collective years of skills and experience bought you the delicious buffet spread!

I’m liking what I see – so much variety!
Hi there! I need your expert opinion…i’m planning to bring my loved one to ramadan buffet but unfortunately seeing so many offers i’m clueless…can give me your opinion? I need the buffet with the most varities & worth the money i pay…thanx alot & your reply is very much appreciated
Hi dear
Paya serai is good. If you’re in PJ area.
KL area is Vistana, Westin, JW Marriot. Those offer more local spread. Else Grand Millenium.
But .. hmm.. I really like Sheraton Imperial’s one too!
Thanks for your kind reply…i don’t really mind actually but in my mind probably westin or paya serai…which one of these two will you recommend both varieties & taste?
