Ramadan Buffet 2013 – Nook, Aloft Hotel KL Sentral

Picture - intro

Thanks to Rebecca Saw who gave me the chance for another preview. Don’t you think it will be nice to have a ramadhan buka puasa feast at the most convenient location from the office or traffic jam in the heart of Kuala Lumpur?

Nook in the brand new Aloft Kuala Lumpur Sentral ushers in Ramadan with the A-list Malaysian feast during this puasa month. Nook’s operation hours are from 6 am-12 am daily and it’s located at the hub of business center in KL Sentral which is also known as the largest railway station in South East Asia.

This line of spread will include both local and western cuisine. Apart from the highlighted dish like the Stuffed Whole Lamb Kuzi served with Nasi Briyani, Chef Steven and his dedicated team welcomed us to sample the extensive selection of Malay dishes and provincial specialties such as the Vegetable Dhall, Roasted Whole Chicken, freshly baked bread, soups, appetisers and many more.

When I walked into the venue, I noticed that it was decorated in modern apple green as its base color. It’s not the typical hotel-like interior designs that I’ve always seen and it gave me a light and easy feeling during that time. With their attentive waiters and waitresses, I was assured that diners will have comfortable time while enjoying their dinner here at Nook.

Each dish was arranged accordingly with the name on top. There’s one that particularly caught my attention – Sarawak Laksa. The soup is served hot and it’s light taste of spiciness together with other fresh ingredients made it a very appetizing dish.

For the appetizers, there are a few that I’m fond of. These are the smoked salmon, fresh prawns and oysters.

Assorted hot and cold beverages helps to wash all the food down.

Satay (skewered meat) are a mandatory item on the Ramadan buffet spread to me. The difference here is that these satay are prepared using the grill instead of the conventional charcoal. That’s why diners will not have to worry if their satay has too much carbon on it as it was grilled to perfection and it’s carbon-free.

I managed to catch up with Chef Steven Seow for a brief chat. The dishes created was inspired by his mother-in-law’s local Malay traditional recipes which he is confident that most of us haven’t tried yet. Chef Steven Seow is originally from Perak and is a Chinese-Muslim Malaysian who has been in this industry for more than 20 years.

Lastly, do share this with all your friends and give this place a try. If you are looking for a fresh and modern designed place for meal, Nook is for you! It’s also perfect for business meeting and social gatherings as it’s easy to locate and to commute to as well, thanks to KL Sentral LRT Station which is located just opposite the hotel.
For the finale of my buka puasa feast here, I helped myself to the desserts and it was a nice wrap-up for my experience here!
