Ramadan 2015 – Breaking fast at Essence Sheraton Imperial for RM90 !

One of my favourite venues for buffets in Klang Valley; Essence in Sheraton Imperial recently showcased their 2015 Ramadan spread.
I just got back from Bali and SG, and was certainly in the mood for a smorgasbord of Malaysian delights.

Themed “Tales of Nusantara” the spread didn’t disappoint.
It aims to bring about a delightful and tantalizing Ramadan experience, boasting more than than 210 mouth-watering specialties from Malay, Indian, Chinese, Vietnamese, Indonesia, Singaporean and many more other cuisine.

The highlights of Essence’s Whole Baby Lamb with Mandi Rice, Baked Whole Sea Bass Bumbu Bali Nyonya Curry Laksa, Singapore Chili Crab, Nasi Ambeng are just a few from the 120-metre buffet spread.
Live stations dotted the space, with chefs working cheerily at a furious pace to serve the guests with hot, freshly cooked dishes.

I daresay Essence in Sheraton Imperial has one of the most live stations in their Ramadan buffet.
Live stations at buffets usually covers the grilled seafood, the noodles, the pasta, and sometimes the satay and roti canai.

Here at Essence we have Chilli Crab, Asam Pedas Claypot, handmade kuih kapit baked in front of you and still hot to touch as you shove it into your mouth. This is not to be missed.

Adding to that, there are 2 (TWO) (depending on the rotating menu) lamb dishes; one whole baby lamb and one already cut up and buried in a mountain of fragrant rice.

So yes, imagine for RM90 you can pick out lamb meat from the Lamb Mendi Rice, and proceed to ask the chef to cut half the lamb for you (if you did they would, but try to leave some for the other diners ok? :P), and load up further on the lamb through the cauldron of Lamb Biryani.

If that this is not a satisfying buffet, I don’t know what is!

For a dish that is less of the ordinary, this year I saw Nasi Ambeng at one of the live stations.
Hmm… in truth it needs a bit more ingredients to be a complete Nasi Ambeng. Well, good try nonetheless.

I love the desserts.
It has been almost 7 years of consistent buffet lunch and dinner for me here and over the years the traditional kuih selection remained consistently well made and taste good as good as it looks .

There are some old favourites (ang koo, pineapple tarts, and kuih talam) and also some uncommon ones like the pudding in pumpkin (very Thai), tapai and the layer cakes.

The layer cake (the original, not the Sarawak one) was moist and buttery.
Frankly one doesn’t see layer cakes on the buffet everyday. It is an expensive item. The market price now is about RM100 for 1 kg of layer cake.
You are welcome to wipe the plate clean of layer cake if you wish, and you will still only have to pay RM90!

See I’m all about calculating the value for my ringgit. 🙂

I’ve never liked the Sarawak layer cake. But this one looks promising enough.

There is just so much food for RM90 right?
Essence at Sheraton Imperial is definitely one of the top Ramadan/buka puasa buffet in Klang Valley every year.
