We are always on the lookout for a cafe away from the usual crowded locality of Publika, Hartamas, SS2 and Damansara.
We both write, and we appreciate the occasional change of surroundings that might act as a catalyst for the dreaded writers’ block.
This was an unlikely discovery, for there is no reason for me to be in the neighbourhood but as circumstances would have it, I did went pass this street one day and saw the signboard.
“Oh, wow. A hidden cafe. Looks peaceful here.” I had thought.
This area might not be known to many, so I’ll suggest to use Waze if you are unfamiliar with the address.
Though it may seem secluded (well, it is), it is about 10 minutes from the Kelana Jaya LRT station.
One fine weekday evening, we dropped in to get some work done prior to another appointment.
Orders are made at the counter and payment are made before food or drinks are served. The cake counter is strategically placed right beside it and me being me, was immediately attracted to the alcoholic cakes.
The coffee is alright, while the cake was a disappointment for a tiramisu.
Yes, there are parts that had soaked up some alcohol within the sponge, but overall it was a sad sponge cake with a thin layer of cheese with a sprinkling of nuts as toppings.
I can’t quite recall, but the cake was about RM16.
Disappointing cake aside, the decor is fun and kitschy with animal-printed pillows and colourful furniture. We didn’t explore the basement, but this is certainly the first cafe I knew of that has a basement!
Scrolling through their FB page, the cafe is popular for private functions and the owners would occasionally host “Doggies Day” for owners and pets to mingle and have fun.
We were there for about an hour and service was quite efficient and the overall vibe positive.
I won’t mind a revisit, for I love cafes with outdoor seating though I’m not a smoker. Besides, the area is peaceful and the WIFI works.
What else to expect here other than cakes and coffee?
Well, they offer have set lunches as well as savouries.
In fact, their 80’s Signature @ RM75.00, a platter of roasted half chicken, onion rings, chicken bratwurst, fish and chips, sweet corn, hash brown, garden salad and garlic bread might be worth checking out if you visit in a group.
During our visit one group was feasting on one so I sneaked a few peeks and had to admit that it did look value for money.
Other than coffee they offer healthy smoothies as well, which would be something I’ll order on my next visit. Unfortunately for us there is no affogato on the menu.
Conclusion:
Nice cafe that in a quiet area, WIFI works, outdoor seating available, service is passable, coffee is decent and there is a food menu, though limited.
