NGAM Tom Yum Noodles @ 1 Utama Shopping Centre

I’ve never had a chance to visit Ngam in Bangsar.
Their time in Bangsar proved to be a short stint and when they shut their doors, I’ve thought I missed my chance.

However, there news that they were merely relocating. And true enough, this week, Ngam resurfaced in 1 Utama Shopping Centre.
Located in the old wing near Popular and Chatime, Ngam is now within walking distance from my home!

So there isn’t an excuse not to visit now, especially when I know someone who is a big fan of tom yum.
Besides, I had wanted to support a friend’s business.

I was glad to see the outlet packed during lunch today despite being only 2 days old. Its location is at a far corner at the old wing might have been a disadvantage, but it seems that it wasn’t so.

Being a first-timer the signature tom yum noodles (RM14 nett – regular) was a priority order.
My lunch partner wanted a rice dish so he opted for the Crispy Squid Omelette, Thai sausage and Tom Yum soup (RM16).
I wanted the fish cake (RM12) as well but it was sold out at 12:30pm. For our beverage, we shared a Red Ruby (RM8).

Now it wasn’t that we are cheapskates, but at RM8, I had thought that the Red Ruby would be of a substantial size. It turned out to be quite a petite portion.

Nonetheless my RM14 tom yum noodles was acceptable as the portion of noodles was generous and the bowl included half an egg, a medium sized prawn, 3 squid rings and copious amount of oyster mushrooms.
I believe the noodles are imported and no doubt substantial effort was required to prepare the deliciously piquant broth which leaned more towards the sourish side versus spicy.

While we were alright with RM14 for the noodles, we were dismayed that our RM16 rice meal only consisted of 3 squid rings within a thin omelette, 3 slices of sausages and plain tom yum soup.

Ngam is located in a mall so RM14 -RM20 for a single pax meal could be considered “normal“.
However I would take my RM14 Tom yum noodles with squid and a prawn over the RM16 squid omelette rice any day.

If you hankering for a good tom yum, Ngam is certainly worth checking out.
The soup base is appetizingly sour and isn’t your regular watery, super-spicy variety.

Looks so yummy. The best tom yam I’ve tried is in Langkawi and the chef is from Thai. I will try this and compare whether can beat with my favourite place in Langkawi or not.

      Wahhh!
This one is rather sour and seems richer in seafood flavour than the usual spicier, thinner soup version. I would say it is quite different though named “tom yum” . 😀
Anyhow, I hope you enjoy it and who knows, this might be your fav in KL!
