We all love a good buffet no?
Oh yes, we do.
Even I do.
Except that I’m fussy as hell, and I want my money’s worth. Quality and taste is important to me.
Oh, wait. Doesn’t everyone else?
Well good news, because I’ve recently discovered another worthy buffet in Klang Valley to add to my list of “Great buffets in Klang Valley worth your Money“.
The Resort Café is Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa’s new all-day dining restaurant welcomed its first guest for a meal recently. The 17,588 square feet/ 1,634 square metres restaurant is vibrant, both in decor and infectious energy from the chefs and staff.
Cooks worked furiously at the live stations to meet diners’ requests while diners’ eyes will inevitably be drawn to the the monumental octagonal-shaped wrap-around towers filled with freshest greens and fruits.
I love the massive space.
Everything is laid out in an organized manner at the counters and there are plenty of space to manoeuvre your way around even when the cafe is full.
The dining area is also comfortably arranged so conversation remains private as you dine.
But the first of its kind in Malaysia monumental salad and fruit towers are the centrepiece of the space.
Designed & developed by Sunway Two, the octagonal-shaped wrap-around towers are equipped with chilled water pipes and refrigeration system, gently blowing 10°C cold mists on to the greens and fruits, keeping them fresh and crisp at all times.
The Salad Tower features tiers of over 32 types of greens daily and a full range of home-made dressings. Each day sees a rotation of western greens as well as favourite Asian salads like Ulam-ulam, Pasembur, Gado-gado, Miang Kham, Som Tam, Yee Sang and Rojak Buah.
The Fruit Tower consists of an extensive selection of local and international picks, served in slices, cubes or as a whole.
No more dismal and boring selection of greens for your salads!
And it goes to show that the kitchen team keeps up-to-date with the current consumption habits of the locals. There is no doubting the fact that there are more and more of us who are appreciative of quality salad and fruit spreads as a large part of the Malaysian population start getting into fitness and eating clean.
For travellers residing at the hotel, they would still no doubt be awed, for even an often on-the-go gourmand like me hasn’t such an extensive selection for just salads and fruits alone!
That said, the traditional cuisine are not obliterated of course.
Laksa, curries and a number of nostalgic dishes are offered at each of the EIGHT (8) main themed sections here.
Five (5) speciality chefs with diverse personalities and styles are on board to push all boundaries in creating this spread, and it shows in the diversity of the buffet.
1) Monumental Towers (Appetising Salad & Seasonal Fruits)
2) Malay Archipelago (dishes from Malaysia, Singapore & Indonesia)
3) Indo-Chiné (dishes from Thailand & Vietnam)
4) Oriental Far East (dishes from Japan, Korea & China)
5) Spices of India (dishes from Northern & Southern India)
6) Mirage of the Gulf (dishes from the Middle East)
7) Best from the West (Western comfort food, grills, carvings, rotisserie and churassco)
8) Desserts (old-school favourites / sweets, pastries & cakes)
Beginning my gluttony journey from the appetizer section, I found my mood uplifted at the sight of this butterfly platter (so gorgeous!), the seafood on ice with the gorgeous vermilion-hued fresh prawns and the oysters.
Admit it, you know you are getting your money worth when you see this.
Unless you are allergic to seafood of course.
Even if you are, it isn’t a problem because you will realize later in this post that the MEAT selection is almost as if they served a farm here!
Steering clear of the usual Japanese fare, the only thing Japanese here are the fresh sashimi, which I felt was more than adequate.
Who cares about sushi, when you can have FRESH fish!
More cold appetisers beckoned as we made our rounds with our big plates.
The gorgeous pink tuna are a must for me, while the seafood salad with its bouncy squids and prawns is another personal favourite.
I must have inhaled 5 of these. I love the Peking Duck rolls!
A decent selection of bread and cheeses are available for those who can’t do without them.
Take your pick from savoury to plain artisanal breads.
As with any buffets, the menu is on rotation. That evening a tummy -warming Chinese soup and a hearty meat stew made up the soup selection.
I’m a carnivore, so my stomach focused on the lamb rack, roast chicken and satay.
A spinning chicken caught my attention, while the salt crusted lamb rack Chinese style was something unfamiliar but delicious. If you are worried about the salt levels (as I did after noticing the salt crust on it), be assured that the meat was perfectly seasoned.
A good roast is always appreciated.
There are sunny-skinned chicken (I’m guessing good quality kampung chickens!), golden ducks and shiny chicken char siew. Get the chef to cut up a platter of everything if you can’t make up your mind of which could be better.
Oh, don’t forget the awesome chilli!
Delicate delicacies such as scallops and cod fish are steamed and served in individual single servings.
Any seafood aficionados would be pleased with the ocean bounty here – crabs, large prawns, crayfish, salt crusted whole fish, scallops, mussels, baked and fried or in curries; you name it, it’s on the buffet counters.
Indian, Chinese, Western, Arabian.
What flavours tickle your fancy this evening? 🙂
An Arabian spread isn’t that common at buffets in the Klang Valley and the buffet here certainly stands out with its large, authentic picks of savoury Middle Eastern dishes and sweet pastries.
Made in-house (yes, they have an Arabian chef) the cheeses are heavenly!
And so are the rice and meat preparations.
For the sweet-toothed among us, look no further for your favourite nutty Middle Eastern treats.
On Friday and Saturday nights, diners are in for a treat with the choice of having unlimited servings of Señor Sergio’s Churrascos as part of the buffet.
Keep your seat warm as the restaurant’s waiters will serve tender and juicy grilled-to-perfection meat and seafood on skewers at your table, slicing the meat/seafood onto the plate of diners as desired.
There’s a myriad of dips to go with them meat/seafood too!
The grilled wagyu was to die for.
If it is possible for you to still have stomach space for desserts, you be delighted to know that the dessert section will not disappoint.
Almost 10 flavours of gelato beckons, and works of art in the form of chocolate and baked pastries vie for your attention.
Amidst all the fanciful desserts, our local favourites are not forgotten.
Remember the humble ice cream sandwich? Or our local “ais kacang”?
Upsided no doubt, but still a delightful treat!
Would you be able to empty this bowl on your own? 🙂
Stop the ice cream man!
Like what you see?
Check out the prices below for the buffet.
I would recommend the full works of course, with the CHURRASCO! 🙂
A small eater and not a fan of buffets?
No worries. The ala-carte menu also offers some interesting dishes. The three (3) must-haves include MISO SOUP WITH MACA ROOT, FRESH OYSTER AND LOBSTER, CHAR KWAY TEOW WITH JUMBO COCKLES, PRAWNS AND DUCK EGG TOPPED WITH FRESH CRABMEAT and CHERRY BLOSSOMS ON MOUNT FUJI (ICE KACANG FESTIVAL).
You can also opt for Tiffin Sets or the Hot Pot sets. Just email /call them to inquire more.
I’m currently looking forward to their Ramadan buffet for 2015! 🙂

The food looks absolutely glorious and yet again Becky has excelled in her composition and presentation. Back in KL soon I hope.
Yes, I’m waitin for you!! Come come come 😀
I just booked buffet lunch for Mother’s Day somewhere else, and then I saw this post. Now you make me second guess. The pictures and spread looks so good.
So, I called Sunway and made my reservation there as well. Only Mother’s Day buffet this Sunday, May 10, is RM 148++ (adult). Eek. But still RM 88++ (senior citizen) which thankfully mom is. 🙂
Whoa Winnie!
I do hope they make your Mother’s day extra special!! 😀
Seriously? This is one of the worse buffet ever tried. Very poor food quality, freshness is not there and food is left too long in the tray and is overcooked and lack of food variety. Will never recommend to others.
Hi Amanda
I note with interest your comment on the above. I have had friends who had gone on their own for the weekend buffet and not experienced such a disaster.
Anyhow I dropped u an email.
Hi, How about now are the prices the same and are buffet lunch and dinner same schedule? Thanks
