Nasi Lemak Salad @ Chai Bar, Oasis or Telawi, Bangsar

So I’ve tried the Nasi lemak Cheesecake. Earlier last year a cute nasi lemak sushi was making waves in KL.
Then this month I gobbled a whole nasi lemak MAKI and had thought; this nasi lemak trend is sure picking up.

Let’s not forget the nasi lemak gelato that started it all back in 2012.

In keeping to the theme, today’s lunch was this Nasi Lemak Salad (RM26) at Chai Bar.

If you don’t already know, Chai Bar is my preferred salad bar in KL.

I can’t claim to have eaten at all salad bars in the Klang Valley (nor do I intend to) but I’ve had have my fair share of salads (I’m a strict low-carber remember?) and Chai Bar’s range of salads, the portion, the price as well as their ingredients has been agreeable to my palate and wallet so far.

They started offering deliveries recently so I’m thrilled that I’ll be able to get my favourite salads more often now!

Now there’s no excuse for YOU to not try their nice salads too. Just order online HERE –> http://chaibar.oddle.me/

Back to my lunch.

Behold the NASI LEMAK SALAD (RM26)!

Quinoa cooked in coconut cream (santan), thick, tender fillets of chicken breast, 1 hardboiled egg, onion rings, cucumber, lettuce plus a sprinkling of crushed peanuts and crispy anchovies over it all.
Dressing is sambal mayo which is creamy and slightly spicy.

Delicious or not’ – you ask? A good imitation of nasi lemak?

Well, I’ll rate it 6/10 for now.
It is filling, tasty, high in protein and absolutely healthy at at least half the calories of a normal serving of nasi lemak.

However I thought it could be much better with say, actual sambal to be mixed with the quinoa (just like rice and sambal) plus more peanuts.

The sambal mayo can be retained as a dip for the greens, but the quinoa could do with a good dollop of fiery sambal!

Anyhow, this is a monthly salad so it is only available for May 2016. So hurry if you want to try it!
