With 7 variants of baked traditional mooncakes and 7 mini snow skin, Renaissance Kuala Lumpur Hotel ensures both the traditionalists and the adventurous are placated.
The flavours for the baked variety was kept simple with lotus paste and red bean while the snow skin collection saw playful renditions with marshmallows, corn and osmanthus thrown in.
Let’s begin with the traditional.
You can take your pick of 4 pieces in a premium box for RM138 nett.
This sturdy box looked every inch the premium packaging that you would proudly gift a loved one or an esteemed client.
Further to that, each of the baked mooncakes are beautiful. The deep emboss with the letter ‘R’ plus intricate patterns made them a standout among other mooncakes with less personalized form of engravings.
Assorted Nuts and Seeds (Low Sugar) – RM30
Pandan Lotus Paste with Single Salted Yolk – RM28
White Lotus Paste with Single Salted Yolk (Low Sugar) – RM27 OR White Lotus Paste – RM26

Next, the kaleidoscopic snow skin mooncakes.
The Renaissance Hotel could lay claim as the sole hotel offering the most cheery snow skin range in town!
Mini Snow Skin Mooncake (low sugar)
– 6 pcs per box
BELOW: Left to right:
White and Black Chocolate Paste with Mixed Nuts – RM17.50 per piece
Osmanthus Paste with Dates – RM17.50 per piece
Coffee Paste with Marshmallow and Nuts -RM17.50 per piece
I thought it was a clever move to match coffee with the saccharine marshmallows. The java aroma and flavour revealed better harmony of flavours with the marshmallows as opposed to using lotus.
It was nice to bite into each wedge and enjoy the pillowy, chewy and sweet centre.
BELOW: Right to Left:
Durian Paste – RM17.50 per piece
Yam Paste with Single Egg Yolk – RM17.50 per piece
White and Black Chocolate Paste with Mixed Nuts – RM17.50 per piece
2 more flavours not pictured here were the Black Sesame Paste with Green Tea (RM17.50/ piece) and the Corn Paste with Raisin – RM17.50 per piece.
The durian paste snow skin was overly mild for me. I love my durians and I prefer them as pungent as possible. I did favour the yam snow skin as it was not overly sweet. The duo chocolate snowskin with nuts was a crowd pleaser. No doubt this was made for chocolate lovers.
All in all the sheer variety of mooncakes offered by the Renaissance team would be a compelling enough reason to buy. Besides, their mooncakes are easy on the eyes too.
Many thanks to the Renaissance team for the feast.
I can finally claim that I’ve tasted Dynasty Restaurant dim sum and mooncakes after so many years!
