Are you familiar with the saying “Eat breakfast like a King, lunch like a Prince and dinner like a Pauper”?
Well, let me tell you a secret (which is no secret actually) – I live by that rule.
What you see; the abs, lithe figure and the toned limbs is a product of living by that principle.
I take my heaviest meals in the morning and I consciously lessen my calorie intake over the course of the day.
It works for me so far and I’ve always advised those seeking diet advice from me the same.
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and kickstarting your day right should be on your priority if you wish to have a productive day ahead.
For me it is a punishing workout and a nutritious meal. Talk to me AFTER that or I might bite your head off.
Or maybe not. If you swing by with food. And serve it to me in bed. 😀
Another tip?
Don’t stop eating when you are full. Instead, you should stop eating when you are NOT hungry.
The body has its own mechanism to inform you of its needs. So listen to it!
I get a lot of queries about what I eat.
“Becky, how is it that you eat so much yet you stay so slim?” is like the standard FAQ.
Well, it will be a long story if I go into details of my daily diet.
For today, I’ll just start with the topic of breakfast; my favourite meal of the day.
My breakfast usually consist of a drink plus a meal.
While I’m rather flexible about my choice of meal since I allow myself heavy calories in the morning (more so after a workout), my drink of choice is usually a glass of cold milk but full cream please. The richer the better.
Why milk you ask?
Simple.
1. It is easy to drink.
2. It is effortless to just grab a pack of milk from the fridge and poke a straw into one and start drinking.
3. It is high in both protein and calcium which is essential for my muscle building and for insurance against osteoporosis.
My choice will always be full cream milk as it contains good fats needed for my body besides keeping me full for a longer period of time.
One can’t deny the goodness of milk.
It is one of the most nutritious ingredient that we could consume.
Milk is naturally full of essential nutrients that are important for daily life.
Do you know that two servings of milk per day is sufficient to provide essential nutrients to nourish you and your family and 1 serving at breakfast can provide 200mg of calcium to kickstart your day?
Drink it on its own. Add milk into your granolas.
Blend it into a smoothie. My favourite protein shake is milk, strawberries, bananas and avocado!
There are many ways to incorporate milk into your diet. Yet sadly enough Malaysian families does not drink enough milk.
According to a recent Dutch Lady study, Malaysia’s milk consumption is lower compared with other Asian countries.
In 2010, Malaysia’s per capita consumption was a mere 4.1 litres while countries like Vietnam were consuming more than 7 litres/day!
So why are Malaysians not consuming enough milk?
Perhaps it is due to the lack of education?
I mean, do YOU realize that milk contains:
1. Protein which is essential for growth and development?
2. Calcium for development of strong bones and teeth?
3. Vitamin A which is essential for eye function?
4. Vitamin B2 which helps in the release of energy from foods (ie metabolism)?
5. Vitamin D3 for absorption of calcium and phosphorus?
To be honest, the advantages of drinking milk is endless.
Just as it is important to have a proper breakfast, be it just a carton of milk or a slice of bread.
Our body need energy to kick start the day. If you have a wholesome breakfast, you’ll less likely to binge during the day and therefore reducing the probability of making bad food choices.
Fat or fit?
The choice is yours!
i like dairy in all its forms – milk, butter, cheese, ice cream …. 😀
LOL! Thank god you’re not lactose intolerant then! 😛
