Meng Kee Char Siew – Jalan Alor

meng kee Jln Alor

Date: Jan 9th 2010, Sat.
Time: Lunch.

Order: Single portion Char Siew Rice.
Price: RM6.50

Meng Kee CharSiew Rice

Taste: Diabetically, teeth- jarringly sweet, due to its outer glaze.
Texture: Meat was soft & tender, which was it’s only saving grace.
Fat : Solid, most certainly isn’t the melt- in- the- mouth kind that I prefer.

Rice: Clumpy & wet.

Verdict: Seriously below expectations, given its reputation. (TNG’s personal opinion ok)
My first visit was somewhere in April 2008 with a couple of friends. It was still located at Tong Shin back then.
It wasn’t until I started blogging that I realized that this Meng Kee was supposedly one of the mighty Kings of Char Siew in KL.
I was surprised, for that visit didn’t leave any lasting impressions on me so I thought a re-visit was warranted given that I had just finished a FSF vs SFS char siew thesis 😉

Their char siew there has less fat (at least when you request for it, they do cut down on the fat).. btw, sorry about saturday.. hope you got my message.. 🙂

I was just telling Unkaleong the other day why I like your food reviews is that you are brutally honest with your personal opinions.

Makes it easier to trust the review, you know? No prettifying it… if it's not up to par. 😛

  14. Chong

Clumpy rice is a no no even if the char siew is good. One must go well with another. Hehe. 😛

  15. Tummythoz

Hi5 on the 'tooth jarringly sweet' note.

  16. JC
