When I was in Nepal for the Air Asia X CSR – One Child One Laptop Programme (OLPC); I remembered showing these bright, inquisitive children pictures of my life in KL. One of the folders they loved was this set of pictures from the Just Heavenly Cafe at Bangsar Shopping Centre.
They went oohh and ahhhh over these cute cupcakes and luscious cakes.
“Bananas!”, exclaimed the smart children as they peered intently at this tall Banana Cream Pie.
Well, they would know! Bananas are part of the Nepalese staple diet. Throughout my trip I was served bananas at almost every meal. One of the children said she will try to make one just like this for her mum! 🙂
Today as I sit here and thought back of my trip to Nepal, I wish I could have these children with me and throw them a nice party with all-you-can-eat Just Heavenly’s cakes. I’m sure they would have enjoyed it as much as I did when I sat here and licked my spoon clean after every dish just a few weeks back.
Durian Cheese.
I do personally recommend this as one of the must-haves desserts here at Just Heavenly Cafe. There’s more durian taste than cheese so if you’re a durian fan, you better head over here fast! 🙂
THE RIDICULOUSLY LARGE BREAKFAST – RM32.00.
2 eggs – any style, two sausages, ricotta hotcakes; garlic mushrooms, breakfast salsa; toast with our citrus ginger marmalade; side of greek yoghurt with honey. Each large breakfast set comes with a juice and a hot coffee or tea.
I had ate my way through many many breakfast sets in KL and I must say the price tag of RM32 for this set is well justified. Most sets in town are priced at RM25 – RM35/set and Just Heavenly’s Ridiculously Large Breakfast Set comes with coffee/tea AND juice AND pancakes!
Coffee/tea, juice and pancakes are usually separate items on the menu at other outlets. Besides, unless you have a ridiculously large appetite, this set is perfect for sharing.
In addition to portion, Just Heavenly Cafe breakfast set justifies in quality too. Good breads, homemade delicious (REALLY delicious, and this is coming from someone who hates marmalade) marmalade jam, better than average sausages, breakfast salsa (instead of the usual lazy grilled tomatoes) and ricotta (not just plain ones mind you) hotcakes really sweetens the deal!
I love my sausages in this “meaty” texture.
The hotcakes are not as fluffy as I would have liked but I suspected the inclusion of ricotta cheese in the recipe is the reason why it’s not as airy. Anyhow I didn’t mind it at all as it’s a different recipe all together. One can’t expect a normal pancake to have similar texture as a cheese-y pancake.
Coffee or tea and vitamin boost juice.
Chocolate and banana is a proven harmonious marriage and the ingenious duo of Just Heavenly did a worthy version with sourdough toasted with cinnamon topped with nutella, crushed hazelnuts and a drizzle of orange reduction – RM12.
DETOX SALAD – RM22.00 – a light, tangy salad of organic quinoa taboule, roasted mediterranean vegetables, red onions and greek yoghurt.
You can put me on this detox diet anytime. 🙂
My favourite food; the burger was a tad mushy that day but every other component was satisfactorily tasty.
LAMB BURGHINI – RM27.00, a greek inspired lamb burger balanced with a refreshing yoghurt-mint sauce.
Thick patty, thick cheese, thick greek yogurt, fresh greens. All it needed was a properly done patty of which I’m certain would have been rectified by now.
Another item worthy of mention was the special fries that was first and foremost poached to break down the starch, then fried.
Other than improved taste, it ensures that the fries remained crisp even when it’s cold. That’s a lot of work for fries alone but the people behind Just Heavenly has always taken great pleasure to provide quality food. I was told that they source local produce as much as possible for all their dishes; for example using watercress for the salads and substituting arugula for rocket leaves.
Instead of Starbucks, why not head here as Just Heavenly Cafe whipped up some really refreshing beverages! My favorites are the Mango Madness (because I love smoothies!) and the cooling sensation of Mint Magic.
From left to right:
LIMEADE – RM12.00 – fresh limes and mint leaves muddled then fused with brown sugar, soda and orange syrup.
MINT MAGIC – RM10.00 – fresh mint, mint tea, honey, iced tea with heavenly twist
BERRY SANDWICH – RM12.00 – strawberries, raspberries and other berries pureed than sparkled with soda.
MANGO MADNESS -RM14.00 – mango, lime, ginger, yoghurt. And yes, they have WIFI too. 😀
Last but not least, a simple pasta dish of Aglio-Olio.
CRAB AGLIO OLIO – RM26.00 – shredded crab on a mound of angelhair pasta tossed in garlic and extra virgin olive oil.

Wow actually more interested in the fries than the breakfast… The method of preparation sounds interesting!
It can be thought of “dry” if you do not understand the method of preparation. But it was good for me 🙂 I hate greasy fries anyhow!
Still can’t beat Antipodean’s Kiwi Lamb burger huh? 🙂
Nope. 🙂
The breakfast is ridiculously not big for me 😛
A lot of people think so too! Heheh.. but really, the pancakes does stuff u up!
Their cakes – durian choc is fab! But the cheese and the more generic ones are so -so only.
