In view of the recent health-conscious mindset of Malaysia’s population, all of Grand Hyatt’s traditional baked and snowskin mooncakes come with less sugar for a less sinful celebration.
The baked traditional ones includes red bean, white lotus, white lotus with single yolk and white lotus with double yolk.
I had sampled those last year so you can read about them HERE –> https://www.rebeccasaw.com/grand-hyatt-kuala-lumpur-mooncakes-for-2013/
This year, I concentrated instead on their snowskin varieties which I missed last year.
All handcrafted, 4 snowskin varieties are available in black sesame, green tea, pandan and lotus flavours. Prices begin at RM26++ per piece or RM102++ per box.
Out of the 4 my personal favourite is the Black Sesame Seed with Peanut Butter (RM15).
Dark, nutty sesame paste with freshly roasted, crunchy peanut + sugar as the “yolk”, this was superb and addictive.
Oh, each individual mooncake is dusted with gold powder which gives it a prosperous, luxe look.
Red Bean Green Tea. (RM15). The red bean paste is nice; smooth & mildly sweet.
However, the green tea flavour wasn’t prominent enough.
The Lotus Paste with Apricot (RM15).
I find the lotus paste a tad too sweet for my liking but I have to recommend it to be the smoothest lotus paste I’ve had!
The cut of apricot made the overall flavour quite interestingly; sorta like flirty fruity. It is really a fun flavour. 🙂
Lastly is the Pandan with Melon Seed (RM15). This is the most traditional flavour of them all among the snowskin flavours. I love it for the unadulterated, bold pandan flavour.
Overall I enjoyed the snowskin mooncakes here at the Grand Hyatt. the skin may look a bit thick in the photos here but it is wonderfully soft and dissolves easily on the tongue so I didn’t mind at all! 🙂
