“Compare and find the cheapest travel insurance, best credit cards for cashback or airmiles rewards in Malaysia. Use GoBear.com for unbiased comparisons.”
So with that tagline, I’ve thought it would be wise to use GoBear a shot for my 2016 travel insurance purchase.
My last insurance was Chartis Travel Guard, bought back in 2012.
After the package ended I’ve had no idea of what should be my next travel insurance coverage should be like.
I attended the GoBear launch back in May and had to endure phases like “metasearch engine in insurance and financial products” during the event which made no sense to me.
However in June the need to purchase a travel insurance surfaced and GoBear came to mind.
Ok, so let’s see what is this GoBear all about, I’ve thought.
So I tasked my PA to do the necessary research on GoBear.
Her findings were as below.
The travel insurance that I am looking for:
- Annual plan
- I have no budget constraints
- Destination – local (since self-drives to Melaka, Ipoh, Johor and Penang happens frequently) and internationally
I’ve narrowed down to 2 options using GoBear; Ace Jerneh and Kurnia:
ACE JERNEH | KURNIA | |
Medical expenses overseas
|
RM350,000 |
RM100,000 |
Personal accident
|
RM300,000 |
RM100,00 |
Loss of baggage
|
RM5000 |
RM2500 |
Cancellation of trip
|
RM20,000 |
RM10,000 |
NOTE: After the whole policy was confirmed and done, I had wanted to grab the screenshots for this posting BUT the option for Travel Insurance comparison feature on GoBear is temporary unavailable.
Thankfully our emails captured our research, so here it is.
After comparing, I’ve decided to go for Ace Jerneh since Ace offers higher compensation for everything even though the premium is slightly more expensive.
Area of coverage for Ace Jerneh are divided into:
AREA 1 – Asia Pacific:
Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei, Cambodia, China [excluding Tibet & Mongolia (inner & outer)], East Timor, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Krygyzstan, Laos, Macau, Maldives, Myanmar, New Zealand, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Tajikistan, Thailand, Uzbekistan, Vietnam.
AREA 2 – Worldwide:
All other countries not stated in the above except Cuba.
My final choice was AREA 1 – Asia Pacific since there is an option to buy additional coverage for a particular trip if the country isn’t covered in my chosen package.
Besides, Area 1 listed the frequently traveled to countries for most Asians (myself included).
If you are looking for a good travel insurance, take a look at the one I bought. RM280 is ok I guess for a year.
Conclusion:
We found the GoBear site to be useful and straightforward for our travel insurance research.
While I’m certain there are more travel insurance options in Malaysia than just Ace and Kurnia, I happen to be the impatient and ‘prefer-hassle-free’ processes sort so I just settled for whatever that came up.
Anyhow I’m glad my travel insurance concerns are taken care of for the next one year. My crazy travel schedule is wearing me down and I felt better that I have sought protection should anything untoward happen.
