17th September 2015 It is the time of the year again for beer drinking, food paring that will surely make you lost count of your calories intake.
This Oktoberfest celebrate with Guinness Anchor Berhad (GAB), the leading beer and stout brewer in Malaysia. This year festive goers can expect GAB’s five premium brews including Heineken, Guinness(My personal favorite, because once you go black you never turn back.), Kilkenny, Kirin Ichiban and Paulaner.
Other than the beer, my highlight of the night is the GAB beer inspired food!
This year GAB partnered with Chef Steven Yap from the Malaysian Food and Beverage Executives Association to reinvent 3 dishes inspired and infused with the celebrated brews.
As starter the Guinness Aromatic Crispy Duck gave the evening an appetising kickoff. It reminded me of the crispy duck wrap at The Social but this was made difference with a hint of Guinness sauce included.
Next is Grilled Chicken with Paulaner Applesauce. The chicken was grilled to perfection, and I especially like the little charred part paired with the savory applesauce. I detected a Paulaner malt beer aftertaste too. This was indeed satisfying protein!
This my favorite of the night – Bread and butter pudding with Guinness custard sauce.
The texture of the pudding is dense yet soft and spongy with the occasional raisin in-between. Paired with the Guinness Custard Sauce this is a killer dessert!
I can imagine having it as my morning breakfast spread; though it is a little sweet at first, the aftertaste of Guinness imparted a hint of bitterness which made it manageable.
The rest of the GAB inspired food was just so-so. There’s poached chicken sausage with Kilkenny mustard and honey dipping, glazed Heineken potatoes and cauliflower with Kilkenny cheese sauce. Since I prefer a richer brewed beer flavor, I didn’t like these since I could barely detect the beer in each.
