For sale: Victoria Crest – delicious Chicken Mushroom Leek Pies and Beef Pie!

The crave for a good savoury pies has been long and agonizing.

Now, it wasn’t as if KL lacked meat pies.
On the contrary, there are many grocery stores, bakeries and pie specialty shops offerings a number of popular pies.

But the problem with pies is they are enclosed pastries so you can’t take a peep to know if the fillings are promising, unlike say quiche or an open tart.
Thus, you can’t gauge from a look if it is worth buying.

And more often than not, buying pies in KL is a disappointing affair.
The crust, regardless of filo pastry or butter crust type are usually thick, stiff equivalent of cardboard.
The fillings, oh, don’t get me started on the fillings.

It wasn’t as if the pies are cheap to begin with so a saucy mess of indistinguishable vegetables and specks of meat couldn’t possibly justify the current price tag of RM6 – RM18/pie.

So when a friend of mine told me to give the Victoria Crest pies a shot, I had thought why not.
I’ve consumed their range of sausages before and VC’s bangers does deliver on its promise of ‘no dodgy fillers, made from premium meat besides being low fat and delicious’.

It was one of the very few commercial sausages that I consume, though not often.

So with such confidence, I arranged for some Victoria Crest pies to try.

In terms of variety you can select either chicken or beef.

Generously loaded with chunky meat, the fillings were tasty and moist. The buttery puff pastry was crispy (easily achieved if you follow the cooking instruction) and fragrant.

It was a helluva good pie!

See?
The fillings is that much!
Chunks of tender (not dry, I assure you) chicken in a creamy portobello mushroom & leek sauce.

Good stuff!

Besides the pies, I would recommend the sausages and burger patties as well as their latest chicken streaky too.
