For decades it was said that targeted fat loss is not possible.
I believed so too after a life-long struggle with my thighs. No amount of weight training, runs, RPM classes seem to reduce its circumference a bit.
BELOW: See? Wouldn’t I have looked better with slimmer thighs? 🙁
A harsh extremely strict diet kinda worked, but I couldn’t keep it up as it involves almost no carbs, no meals after 7pm and very small meals throughout the day.
In the end I decided that I’ll just remain fit, slim even, but never able to flaunt sexy shapely thighs in a bikini.
A recent trip to a beauty centre whispered possibilities of such targeted fat loss regime. I was terribly tempted, except that they didn’t think it was a good idea for me to be undergoing this procedure together with my 3 months Personal Training program.
I refused the treatment, and decided to stick to Personal Training.
For me, no treatment or creams or diets should replace exercise. If anything, diet + exercise + treatment (should you decide to take any) should work hand-in-hand.
And that would make any long term fitness or health goals SUSTAINABLE because you cultivate good habits which is possible to integrate into your daily lifestyle, not rely on short term results and have the dreaded yo-yo effect.
Then a good friend of mine told me of this Coolsculpting procedure.
I related my earlier experience with the previous beauty centre and Chua, one of the consultants from Clique Clinic assured me that it won’t be a problem to have both Personal Training at Celebrity Fitness and Coolsculpting done concurrently.
In fact, no fat loss treatment should ever replace proper exercise and diet, Chua had said firmly.
I was really glad to hear that Clique Clinic’s beliefs and mine are in line. And thus I agreed to give Coolsculpting a shot.
I went for a consultation and had my problem areas identified. Even at 25% bodyfat and 47.7kg, I have an excess amount of fat cells in my thighs and underarms – the usual areas of woe for women.
Fortunately I had kept my tummy flat so thought it wasn’t washboard abs, it was at least presentable whenever I had to fit into a tight dress.
30 minutes later, we had decided on the exact areas to be worked on. The best parts would be the inner thighs as well as the back of the thighs.
I asked if it could be NOT fat, just that perhaps I was born with big thighs? Hey, seriously I did!
I mean why else would all that dieting and exercise not work right??
But no, according to the Doctor, if you could grab a fistful of flesh, it is most likely fat, not muscle.
So this is the skinny on how Coolsculpting works:
So yes, no surgery and no downtime.
The procedure took about 60 minutes for each body part.
Each body part is RM2,000, RM1,800 is applicable if a patient signs up for more than 6 parts.
Step 1 – Measure current body part size (mine is thighs).
To ensure that each measurement is at the exact same angle and width for the BEFORE and AFTER pictures an octagon shaped device is used.
Step 2: I would have to stand at each angle of the octagon and have my pictures taken.
Step 3: Once done, the parts to be focused on are identified, marked and measured.
Step 4: A piece of cold compress are placed over each part. Only ONE part are treated at any one time.
This piece of cold gauze freezes the to-be-treated part so it’s numb while the machine is attached.
Step 5: Attaching the machine to the bodypart to be treated. It is like a vacuum and would stay suctioned in place with a very strong grip during the period of treatment.
Step 6: Relax and sit back and let the machine does its work.
Although it looked a bit uncomfortable it really wasn’t bad. I didn’t feel anything pain but just numbness.
And you eat, watch TV (DVDs available), surf the net (WIFI is complimentary) or even take a nap.
Step 7: For each bodypart, once an hour is over, a consultant would come in and take the machine off. What you’ll see is that bodypart is frozen like a brick and yes, it is still numb. A quick massage(maybe about a minute) is necessary to breakdown the crystalized fat cells after an hour of freezing.
It is said that it might even increase the efficiency up to 40%.
It looks scary right? A big patch of angry red.
But really, it’s absolutely fine.
BELOW: Inner thighs.
Below: Outer thighs.
A quick massage – this was a bit painful but it’s worth tolerating to maximize the result and increase efficiency! 🙂
This was done on 31st December 2013.
And today it’s 14th March 2014.
As promised the results should be visible after 2-3 months. So I’m now ready to take my measurements and check if the procedure worked.
Stay tuned to my next post of which I’ll detail the progress over the last 2-3 months.
Was there bruising? Was there pain? Was I able to exercise and run and walk as usual?
Well, I’ll let you know! 🙂

I really like the information which you have shared in your post about the fat loss treatmetnts. Thanks for sharing such a wonderful information.
Hello, did you only do the treatment once?
Hi Jojo
I did once each on my inner thigh (2 inner thighs) and outer thighs (2 outer thighs). Then stop for a few months for it to take effect.
After that I did another 4 parts – 2nd time. 😀
Hope that clarifies.
