Each year, I look forward to my mooncakes from Concorde Hotel Kuala Lumpur.
Besides being HALAL certified, the mooncakes are consistently good; thin golden baked skin, smooth and not overly sweet pastes and for their snowskin range, Concorde’s durian snowskin is legendary.
BELOW: The Japanese red bean is one of my top picks.
As a bonus, Concorde KL’s intriguing packaging for its mooncakes is another good reason to make annual purchase!
The past years saw one with a light bulb while last year’s version was a tall and pretty glass-looking tall lantern.
This year the solid lacquered case was a throw-back to the Oriental past.
Take your pick from siren red or jet black with motifs of the cock-sure Rooster (homage to 2017 Year of The Rooster no doubt) and the classical peonies so loved by the Chinese.

Available BAKED mooncakes flavours are green tea, black sesame, red bean and fruits and nuts.
These solid, elegant chests are fitted with a delicate golden lock, so naturally making it an ideal Mid-Autumn gift for your family, friends and business partners.
Obviously these lovely chest are designed to double up as a jewellery case after you have savoured all the delicious contents inside!
Concorde KL’s HALAL mooncakes are available from 3 August 2016 onwards.
Early birds enjoy 20% discount when a purchase is made between 3 to 21 August 2016 – sorry for this part as I’ve only received my boxes yesterday!
Anyhow, the current price of each box comprising of SIX (6) small halal mooncakes at 60 grammes each is RM108 NETT.
I do think it is a good deal considering the quality of the mooncakes plus the classy packaging.
There’s a smooth, polished sheen to the boxes, which each come protected in double red velvet bags on purchase, in addition to a firm, thick paper bag.
Yes it does makes an impressionable gift, looking extravagant yet not entirely overly priced.
These boxes are simultaneously sturdy and elegant, making them keepsakes that will last for years.
