Happy New Year and hello 2016! đ
It is that time of the year again where resolutions, well wishes and festivities are abound isn’t it?
I realized this year the Chinese New Year festive season isn’t too far off.
In fact, it is just a month away.
The Chinese New Year menus at hotels and restaurants are ready and various tasting invites have been sent out since as early as November 2015.
The earliest invite came from China Treasures at Sime Darby Convention Centre.
Undisputedly one of the best pork free Chinese restaurant in KL/PJ, China Treasures offers generally flavorsome chinese dishes which are prepared with skill using quality ingredients.
The dim sum is popular with many of my friends, both of Muslim religion and otherwise.
Likewise, for the ala-carte menu as the variety and price are fair.
My.. what big claws you Mr Lobster!
Today I’ll be introducing the celebratory Chinese New Year set menus in conjunction with the traditional reunion dinner.
Priced at RM2,080 nett per table of 10 pax (original pricing RM3,088), this luxurious menu is available on the 7th and 8th of February (the eve & the 1st day of CNY).
This set includes a complimentary RM100 voucher (for use on future visit), free flow of chrysanthemum tea, a side of titbits and a special gift.
So what are the dishes exactly?
Well, here you go, feast your eyes (and hopefully your stomach as well if you do book this set) on these premium dishes with the likes of tiger grouper, abalones and lobster.
Abundance & Prosperity Throughout The Year – fresh salmon and pears yee sang.
Usher The Fire Monkey Jump Over The Great Wall – Double Boiled Nutritious Ginseng Soup with Dried Sea Treasures.
Embracing The Beauty Of The Golden Phoenix – Roasted Crispy Chicken Infused with Five Spices and Garlic.
Monkey King Triumph Against The Sea Dragon – China Treasures Lobster Deluxe Combination Platter.
Enjoying Wholeness & Surplus Of Wealth – Steamed Live Tiger Grouper in Soy Sauce & drizzled in Truffle Oil.
Precious Treasures Of Neptune In Your Home –
Braised Whole Abalone “5 head” & Sea Cucumber with Black Mushroom in Oyster Sauce.
God Of Longevity Sitting By Your Side – Longetivity Strands of Noodles with Seafood Treasures.
May Sweetness Flow In Your Daily Life – Sweetened Refreshing Kiwi Fruit with Sago.
Monkeying Around With Bananas.
So that would be your RM2,080 /10 pax table dishes.
The names may sound funny, but it is common for chinese dishes during the Chinese New Year season to be named in association with good wishes of happiness, longevity, prosperity and luck.

Moving on, I’ll show you the RM1,188 menu which we sampled that evening.
Likewise this is a 9-course menu, peppered with selected quality ingredients and overall satisfying for the price.
We begin dinner with the tossing of the Golden sea Whelk “Yee Sang” followed by a revitalizing hot soup of Double Boiled Chicken Soup with Dried Scallop and Mushroom.
Roasted Crispy Chicken Infused with Five Spices and Garlic was next. We enjoyed the crispy marinated skin and tender meat. I would however, prefer more of the marination on the meat itself as it got bland nearer to the bone.
I love steamed fish and I was glad that the muddy aftertaste commonly plaguing river fish was absent here.
Steamed River High Fun Patin Fish with Ginger and Chili Sauce.
The prices of prawns are currently at RM72/kg (and rising) so we appreciate the Pan Fried Tiger Prawn with Special Honey Marmite Sauce which came with fresh and plump prawns.
The Braised Stuffed Beancurd Roll & Black Mushroom with Seasonal Vegetable (kailan in this case) looked simple but I welcomed the fibers and adored the tasty stuffed beancurd rolls.
Starch in the form of Claypot Rice with Diced Chicken & Yam. Considering that this is part of a 9 course menu, I shouldn’t be asking for more MEAT but this could certainly benefit from more diced chicken and perhaps mushrooms as well.
The whole pot was almost just grains of rice, though admittedly tasty rice.
Rounding up the meal was Sweetened Kiwi with Sago and Deep Fried Chinese New Year dumpling.
The popular yee sang package is also available for dine-in and takeaways with prices starting from RM98 nett.
Preparing a yee sang is time consuming and arduous and frankly, better left to the experts. Take advantage of China Treasure’s “Yee Sang Deliveries” will also be made available from RM108 nett onwards.
Special banqueting packages for CNY Open Houses and Outside Catering Services are also available so contact SDCC for further details.
