I had babbled on about my personal training lessons for some time on Facebook and Instagram and I’m finally writing about it now since it’s that time of the year again for new year resolutions and what-nots.
I’m never a believer of new year resolutions.
I believed that if you really want to make a change in your life, it starts there & then – you just do it. If you’re gonna go on a diet, the change starts in your next meal, not after new year, after Xmas, etc.
Everything else is just an excuse. π
I was pretty excited about this “new” course of my fitness routine though I’m not entirely new to fitness regimes. I have been working out consistently; which explains why I don’t gain weight though I could eat burgers every night and attend about 10 food reviews per week.
Whenever anyone asked “How do you eat so much and still stay slim??” in bafflement, they would getΒ my standard reply – “I exercise“.
It’s never because I had good genes or great metabolism or born with the twiggy built.
I dressed appropriately for my size, suck in my stomach when I have to and worked out 3-4 times a week to ensure that I do not put on weight. π
But the problem is, I could never get the “toned and fit look” either. I certainly don’t look athletic; my arms and legs (specifically thighs) are still flabby and my fitness level has hit an plateau because I have been entirely reliant on RPM, BodyPump, Fast Fit and some jogs in between.
I have always knew my problem areas: are my arms and thighs. But no matter how much I exercise they remained stubbornly big!
Solta Medical offered me their Liposonix treatment so I could drop a dress size. But I had specifically wanted better definition/tone on the thighs but of course I wouldn’t complain if they go a size or 2 smaller.
And slimmer arms too. See how the pretty girls at my side has nice slender arms compared to mine?
I wasn’t getting stronger and I was sure not looking anywhere like the below, lean and mean. And I do really want a torso like this!
So when Celebrity Fitness offered me 24 hours of PT lessons, I ALMOST jumped immediately at the opportunity.
The only hesitation I had was whether the Personal Trainer would be able to help me attain my goals and whether Liposonix from Solta Medical would agree to me having personal training lessons in the same period as my personal training.
Long story short, I had to choose EITHER personal training or Liposonix.
Being the sucker for pain that I am, I chose 24 lessons of sweaty, leg-wobbling and body aching personal training lessons instead of an hour of comfort having my fat sucked out of me via a ultrasound machine.
I know, I’m not very smart. π
But I know my goal. I don’t want to be just thin. I want to be fit, strong and healthy.
My personal training journey started with a 30 minutes assessment session with my trainer Lucius.
He asked the usual questions; what are my goals, how is my lifestyle, a bit of my diet and my schedule before putting me through some simple fitness tests which includes push-ups (god I hate push ups!), running on the treadmill, jumping jacks and squats.
At the end of it all, he had a better idea of my current fitness levels besides getting to know me better.Β I liked the fact that he jolts down everything on his tablet. At least I know he’s not just asking questions for the heck of it and he is actually keeping track of what I’ve said. π
Once we are done, we sat down to agree on our PT days and hours. It is an hour for each session and we concurred that he will vary the exercises accordingly after each session according to my fitness levels. Most importantly, I felt comfortable with Lucius and from the onset, I could tell he’s very professional.
Like I said, I’m not new to exercise and I do need to be able to respect my trainer before I’ll be able to listen and follow his training program. I believe that should be the same for anyone.
Lastly, Lucius asked me to send him pictures of ALL my food/drinks over the next 3 days. This would give him a better idea of my lifestyle and the nutrients I consume.
I had understood where’s he coming from, and obediently spammed his whatsapp over the next few days. I did warn him that he will be getting a lot of pictures since I do food reviews, attend events and I eat every 2-3 hours.
Thankfully he didn’t mind. OR at least at that point of time he didn’t realize how spammy I can get. π
I went into details too of what a messy eater I am. By now he realized I waste food quite a bit.
And what a fussy foodie I am.
And the fact that I do read the nutrition labels. And also that I eat at weird hours as well as funny snacks from all around the world.
I also complained frequently that I’m hungry. π
And I eat Chinese New Year snacks in December. Hahaha! π
To both of our relief, that was only for 3 days. It was however a good start to a trainer-client relationship. He became a friend, rather than just “the torturer” in gym.
You would probably be wondering why there aren’t any pictures of Lucius yet. Well, I’m working on that.
Let’s just say camwhoring isn’t one of his strong pursuits.
But I’ll get you a picture soon! π
Meanwhile, tell me, is “exercising more, eat less, be healthier” part of your new year resolutions?
If it is, do join me in the gym!
Not necessarily personal training but we can always start with trial lessons and the Les Mills classes.
It has been proven that having fun and good workout buddies keeps you disciplined and motivated.
I have my bunch of “fitness” friends which I look forward to meet every Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. That, and also my favorite instructors Vidal, Kan, Melvin and Marcio. People like them has kept me fit and happy for years.
Who knows, it might work for you too! π
You go girl!
I love the PT sessions photos. You do have defined arms right?
Remind me not to mess with you. You do look fit as it is!
LOL!
Your conversations between your trainer and yourself are so cute!
this sounds excellent … here’s wishing you a 2014 in which your physical goals will be achieved! and personally though, i truly feel your arms and thighs look great already, no changes necessary, but it’ll be fun and encouraing to hear about how you continue to sculpt and shape your body to your full satisfaction! =)
I’m a Fitness First member. I have to say my club doesn’t look half as interesting.
6th day of 2014. Not too late to start my resolutions! π
expats can join CF as well right?
