California Pizza Kitchen, KLCC believes in constant refreshing & introduction of new exciting items, sometimes in tandem with festivals, sometimes for a bit of shaking things up on their already rather extensive menu.
Just earlier this year ( post HERE ) I was wow-ed by the chinese – inspired new items CPK added for Valentine’s Day & Asian Delight Lunar New Year Menu (think kung-po pasta & peking duck pizza!! ) & yesterday, I was bowled over by CPK’s CHEESEBURGER PIZZA!
During the previous review, I didn’t exactly like the taste of all the items as I find some to be overpowering; but this time, I was hard pressed to find any fault.
The cheeseburger pizza was probably the most anticipated one for me. Me, a pizza lover & burger – fanatic thought I would start dancing on the tables when I was told of such a lethal combo.
Thick cuts of AVOCADOES!! Woohooo! :yahoo:
And so much shredded lettuces & tomatoes topping it off. I feel less guilty already 😉
Taste-wise? It’s McD’s BIG MAC on pizza crust!
I’m not kidding you. You wouldn’t be able to stop reminiscing of Big Mac when you take a bite of this. From the sauce to the meat, it’s a cheeseburger alright, albeit one with UNDENIABLY better meat & ingredients! Price: RM38.00.
Salads here are LOVELY as usual. I must say CPK serves one of the better salads in town for it’s price. It made me cringe thinking of the RM20++ salads I have paid before for Delicious’s meager offerings when I can have this for RM26.00.
Morrocan Salad – spiced chicken breast with crisp Romaine lettuce, roasted butternut squash, dates, fresh avocado, toasted almonds, fresh beets, chopped egg, carrots, dried cranberries & red bell peppers. Tossed with Honey-Dijon vinaigrette. Full portion: RM32.00, Half: 26.00.
The ingredients alone ensures me that I’m as getting as much bang for the buck I paid. Beets! Almonds! Thick cuts of chicken. Butternut squash. Avocadoes. So much more value for money IMHO.
Adding to their already amazing repertoire of pizzas is this; The Meat Cravers pizza.
A combo of sweet Italian sausage, pepperoni, turkey bacon, spicy salami, julienne salami, Mozzarella cheese & CPK tomato sauce at RM38.00.
I generally approve of the pizza dough here. Always crisp, slightly chewy & tasted very freshly rolled. Only gripe I had with this pizza was the sodium levels; but that’s basically expected since the toppings are all processed meats.
Bored of the tomato-ish base for pizzas? I am. Porta Romano & La Risata has pesto based pizzas & I never fail to order them whenever I dine there. California Pizza Kitchen’s version ain’t bad either.
Pesto Chicken.
Thin Crust Pizza: Grilled chicken breast marinated in a basil pesto sauce with mild onions, Mozzarella cheese, sun-dried tomotoes, pesto sauce & toasted pine nuts. Topped with fresh basil. RM31.00.
See the sides of the pizza? Nicely puffed & thin crust! I love the combination of flavours from the herb-ish fresh basil to the sweetness of sun-dried tomatoes & toasted pine nuts.
The same sauce with penne makes this creamy pesto pasta, which is also part of the 9 new items introduced.
(with Chicken 33.00/with shrimp 36.00/with both! 39.00.)
A new appetizer we tried was Sonora Egg Rolls. Simple description is Popiah Mexico or burrito in popia skins 😉 . A bit oily but yummy!
Grilled lime chicken, roasted corn & black bean salsa, Cheddar & monterey Jack Cheeses, fire-roasted mild chilies, green onions and cilantro, handwrapped in a crispy wonton roll. Served with tomatillo salsa & ranchito sauce. RM25.00.
Ginger Salmon.
Pan seared Norwegian Atlantic salmon topped with chopped fresh cilantro, green onions & a sweet ginger sauce. Served with wok-stirred mixed vegetables. RM43.50.
The vegetables were very lightly wok-stirred & retains all it’s natural sweetness & crunch. The salmon was moist, nicely crisp at the sides & perfectly cooked. Appearently the QC here is very strict & the timing as well as the proper cooking pan is monitored to ensure the salmon is done correctly. Wow!
Desserts: Red Velvet, Chocolate Souffle & Tiramisu. All as good as last time.
Alcohol is served all day 😉 CPK’s mojitos, cocktails & mocktails are legendary. But their chocolate banana milkshake is da bomb as well!
Many thanks to Integrated Public Relations for inviting me on behalf of CPK, GPH! While one may opine that it is pricier to dine here (especially the pizzas), I think it is almost the same for Italiannies too right? Portions & ingredients must also be taken into consideration & CPK does deliver on both.

I love the sight of avocadoes! I feel for your excitement!
Wahhaaa!! oh yes! :good:
Ooh … the avocados are a definite attraction! Maybe it’s time someone comes up with an avocado beefburger too! Anyways ya, I think I’ve always had positive experiences with cpk … I’m betting they’ll still be around at klcc in 2020 😀
Avocado beef burgers? Does guacamole counts? ;p
Can get that in Frontera & Carls Jr!
Yes, I think the strict QC helps to keep the food consistent. Also, there is only ONE outlet in the whole of KL. I think prefer it this way too.
so many types of new pizza coming out, wonder what is the next? pizza mee goreng maybe?
LOL!
Why not hor? Though I think Bak Kut Teh pizza may sell better! ;p
Wow!! Cheeseburger pizza! Sounds great! Ironic that I think KL CPK is better than the ones in LA!
Serious? Based on my both posts it looks better u mean? I’m sure menus are differnt & you may think that way cos u like the Asian-ised menu they have here maybe!
Tried the Cheeseburger pizza and I love it! Tastes almost like a Big Mac.
Wahahaa! EXACTLY right?
But like I said, it’s better meat than those that comes with Big Mac loh!
I was craving for the Cheeseburger Pizza on Friday.
So was I!!
LOL. It’s additive right! The remiscines taste of Big Mac does it to us i think. Tho I do not like Big Mac, a cheese burger taste is soemthing most ppl will like.
