What I have always liked about Kembali Kitchen, Ramada Plaza Dua Sentral is the brightly lit and contemporary setting space.
Though in the heart of Brickfields, it is located slightly off the busy Little India area, and due to its location, one would be quick to dismiss it as another business hotel, with a small gym and even smaller pool and tight corridors.
That wasn’t the case here though, for within this building, a beautiful big pool, spacious meeting space and a gym overlooking the KLCC towers made it almost a relaxation accomodation, setting it apart from the usual city hotels.
Dining options include a Mediterranean tapas plus local delights outlet (Hugo’s On 6), a steak house (Grill 582), a lounge for afternoon tea and cocktails (Punch Bar & Lounge) and of course, the main highlight for all guests; the Kembali Kitchen, a multi cuisine restaurant that serves buffet breakfast, lunch or dinner.
The year’s Ramadan spread at Kembali Kitchen showcases 5 rotational menus featuring over 60 dishes covering traditional Malay cuisine, with the highlight being roast lamb, the curries, noodles from each state (Laksam Kelantan, Mee Hailam, Laksa Johor, Laksa Kedah) and rendang.
Some food are best savoured cooked-ala-minute and that’s where the live stations come in.
The Goreng-Goreng Kampung stall serves piping hot keledek, cempedak, pisang and nangka with I would recommend with heap of ice cream on top for a truly decadent dessert while the Ikan Bakar stall sear your seafood to a nice smokiness. Choices include kembong (mackerel), pari (stingray) and squids.
Douse these with their homemade air asam, cili kicap pedas, sambal belacan and Thai chilli. Lip-smacking goodness!
The other hot food covers a bit of Chinese, Malay and Indian flavours. Watch out for the Lamb Keema, which was great with the roti naan. Both chicken and beef satay aren’t too bad either.
With the elaborate counter displays of food, diners are assured of their RM100 worth meal.
That’s right, prices are nett and the repertoire of traditional favorite and home-recipes of the rendang, bubur lambuk, nasi impit, Laksam Kelantan and Ketam Masak Lemak Cili Padi dengan Nenas are satisfying.
Let’s not forget the sweets; where a selection of local kuih-muih and freshly baked cakes and cookies tempts.
I was in the mood for kuih that evening and selected my favourite ang koo which sadly was disappointing as the skin was very thick and hard.
I didn’t sample the rest.
The cookies were better, fresh tasting and crumbly.
The images shown here are merely 50% of the usual spread, for this is a sneak peek of the potpourri of flavours that awaits diners come this holy month of Ramadan.
You might be wondering why I didn’t post any image of the whole roast lamb here. But fret not, there will certainly be lamb available during the Ramadan month.
