Out of the 3 spas/medical/beauty clinics we visited during our Seoul trip, I particularly enjoyed our session here at Medical Palace, an institution offering Korean Oriental (traditional) Medicine.
If you do not know of its exact location you might miss it.
However it is pretty straightforward once you realized that it is just a floor below this popular and centrally located Hostel Korea.
Footwear are to come off the moment you reach the bottom of the stairs. Lockers with keys are provided to ensure the safe keeping of your shoes and from then on your feet would be clad in their house slippers.
Stepping into the warm and comfortable space, we were welcomed by polite greetings and bright smiles. The friendly staff here speaks good English and are satisfactorily attentive and knowledgeable.
Medical Palace’s philosophy of Sasang constitution believes in addressing the “root of the problem” rather than the signs and symptoms.
That means not suppressing the condition but instead aim to treat the root of the cause.
This sort of healthcare philosophy resonates well with me.
In fact, it is similar to Meridians clinic in Solaris Mt Kiara where I had seek treatments before. Procedures here are non-invasive and treatments is highly efficient though it does take some time for its effects to be felt; depending on the severity of your condition.
The menu below illustrates the range of services available here:
If you do not have any particular health issues, you can opt for one of the treatment packages. All packages includes a general check-up and Doctor’s consultation; which are pretty standard in any case.
We took one of the Treatment Course; Wellness I. Complimentary services of Water Pressure Massage bed (20 minutes), Pelvic Massage Sofa (20 minutes) plus Infrared and High Frequency Laser are included in any of the packages.
I started with this Water Pressure Massage bed which was really fun!
The bed is soft and your body “rocks” gently to the buoyancy of the water underneath when you lay down.
It was cold in Seoul during our trip and this bed is heated so you can imagine my delight while I was on it. It this is available in Malaysia I’ll like to order one pronto! 🙂
Once the bed is powered up the hard and soft waves of water took turns to work the back muscles as they “rolled” up and down my body. It was naturally relaxing and you will feel yourself drift off into Zen mode easily.
The next complimentary service is this Pelvic Massage Sofa. I sat through another 20 minutes of having my hips, back and butt squeezed, kneaded and rolled by the moving objects within the sofa. LOL.
Next was the analysis.
Results. Good or bad?
A very detailed analysis sheet was printed out and passed to us for our safe keeping after the session.
I’ve been trying to decipher this but it still doesn’t make sense to me. Anyone? 🙂
Once the body general check up is done, we were escorted to our private rooms and the subsequent sessions were one-on-one with the doctors in charge.
I started with a quick ultrasound, having my pulse felt, then acupuncture (no pain at all!) and then a body realignment by another doctor.
I was experiencing a severe neck-ache so I had requested the doctor to help ease the pain. The doctor also asked about my medical and health history so I told him about my old injury (a broken femur, right wrist and some bones at the feet) so the doctor helped me to check on the parts concerned.
BELOW: Needles (acupuncture) on the crown of the head, behind the ears, arms and stomach.
Massage and alignment for my back, neck and right leg.
I felt so much better after my session. The rest of the group were all happy with their session, but it was particularly memorable for me as I genuinely experienced better mobility and less ache on my hip, neck and leg after this.
If the same doctor is here in KL I would schedule weekly treatment with him as my injury could benefit from his expert care and frequent check ups. I can imagine myself here for some well deserved pampering sessions too! 🙂
When you’re in Korea it is possible to get lost in the amount of local beauty and wellness products such as masks, lotions and essences. Every outlet promote different brands and concepts.
Here’s more of what you can expect from Medical Palace. Whether you’re in need of post surgery recovery, cupping, detox or childbirth care treatment, you’re in good hands here! 🙂
**This wonderful experience was part of our itinerary during our Korea Wondrous K-Beauty media familiarization trip organized by Korea Tourism Organisation.
