The English afternoon tea.
The English afternoon tea is one of the greatest British customs, and so loved is the custom that is has spread across the world.
In contrast, our Asian teatime usually consist of bananas fritters, potatoes and spring rolls dipped in chilli sauce paired with a glass of pulled tea (teh tarik); consumed at a roadside stall under the trees or at a local mamak.
Hence the lure of warm scones with cream, dainty finger sandwiches, delicate cakes and savoury pies can be irresistible.
That, and the notion of your regal and lofty self perched on a gilded hotel armchair, biting into a buttery scone while being waited on by smiling, attentive servers held all the promises of a wonderful experience.
Such an experience can come true at The Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur.
At the Colonial Cafe you can opt to sit at the tea lounge with views of the gardens or dine under the cheer of the sunlight at the atrium. Else you can enjoy your tea in the ambient lighting at the cafe itself.
The melody and harmonious tones from the piano serenades you as you sip your tea and chat with your partner.
For privacy, the handsome (though seemingly masculine) Drawing Room could be a draw (pun intended).
The Orchid Conservatory could perhaps be the best venue of them all, but be prepared to top up on the price for the tea set and reservation must be made well in advance.

The selection for the tea set at Majestic Hotel includes sweet desserts, sandwiches, hot savouries and of course, the warm scones.
Afternoon Tea Menu (as of mid Jan 2015):
Scones : 2 types; plain & raisin scones, both buttery and best eaten warm.
I love my scones with a LOT of cream. What about you? 🙂
Sweet desserts :
1. Almond Praline, Raspberry Curd and Milk Chocolate Tart – this is my favourite dessert of all.
The almond praline layer provided a nice crunch while the raspberry curd gave a balanced sweetness & tang so as you bite into this tart you will experience different textures and flavours in your mouth.
2. Chocolate Cake (Chocolate cake with ground almond, lemon and orange zest top with Jivarra whipped Ganache) – rich, moist chocolate cake, a winner in its own right.
3. Carrot Cake with Cream Cheese Mousse coated with Chocolate – your regular carrot cake.
4. Shooter of Gianduja Crisp, Dulcey Cream, Streusel, Passion Curd – thanks to the passionfruit this was the sole dessert which offered a kick of zestiness/tang to the overall tea set.
5. Raspberry and Vanilla Cookies Cream Puff – gosh, this one is as the image below.
The cream puff has a nice crusty top and it encases 2 different thick, rich cream. Superb!
The Almond Praline, Raspberry Curd and Milk Chocolate Tart.
Sandwiches.
– Chicken Tandoori, Egg and Cucumber, Vegetarian Pesto, Tuna and Smoked Salmon.
Hot Savouries : (on daily rotation basis).
What we got that evening was mini Chicken Pie, Sardine Rolls and Quiche, all served piping hot and finger licking good!
For drinks, you can opt for tea or coffee.
The tea served is a Cameronian Gold Blend Tea, kept warm with a small heater at the bottom.
The coffee is Arabica coffee.
I truly enjoyed my afternoon tea this time. Kudos to the chef for the improved pastries and I can’t wait to be back for another session with my girlfriends!
Tea time is from 3pm – 6:30pm daily.

Clearly you should have been a society lady in Colonial days. With a blouse and a longer skirt though! Delightful.
Aww thank you Alan!
It’s always great to hear from you! To know that you’re well and also in touch with me! 😀
lovely pics, they really do full justice to the nice setting at majestic … and ya, extra cream for me too! i like a ratio of 2:1 for scone and cream in every mouthful! 😀
WAhhh im liking that ratio. looks like both of us might just have to ask for extra cream if we have scones together 😛

Too bad I wasn’t able to try this a few days ago! I shall come back to Kuala Lumpur and try this out. Your outfit is amazing, by the way! The hat stresses on the “Madame” title so much.
Hi Will!
Hhahaha! Thanks for the comment! Yea, the hat – thought it would gimme that “tai tai” look 😛
And when u’re back in town, do gimme a holla! Perhaps I can intro u to some other food too!
Hi Rebecca, may I know if the pricing for high tea varies between weekdays and weekends?
Hi,
How does the per pax work?
Example: RM88++ and the dessert and tea will be arranged for us?
or is there any terms or condition that a person needs to order a pot of tea or per person needs to order a whole tray to themselves?
Hi June
RM88++ per pax is for the Orchid Conservatory. RM48++ is for Colonial Cafe. It comes with refillable one pot of tea. What you see is a set for TWO pax.
I believe they serve one pax portion as well. Do contact them to enquire so that you can be sure before making a trip there. 🙂
