Designed to meet the demands of modern notebook users who wants to maximise their time and effort wherever they go (LIKE ME!!!!) , the new Acer Aspire S3 Ultrabook combines the power and productivity of notebooks, and essential features of the smartphone and tablet PC, such as fast startup and Internet connectivity.
These 2 aspects comes from two new innovations.
The first is the Acer Green Instant On, which delivers ultra-fast responsiveness to give an “instant on & instant use” user experience, energy efficiency, and enhanced power management.
This technology has two sleep modes from which the Acer Aspire S3 resumes ultra-fast. In Sleep the Acer Aspire S3 will resume in less than 2 seconds[1], and in Deep Sleep[2] it resumes in 6 seconds.
This energy efficient innovation ensures a freedom of battery longevity with 7 hours of battery life[3]in operation and up to 50 days battery life in deep sleep mode.
Crazy isn’t it? I was practically drooling at the numbers above. Nothing pisses me off more than slowness. Slow laptop, slow cars, slow meals, slow people. Yea, I’m a girl living in the fast lane.
Other than SPEED, the Acer Aspire S3 Ultrabook measures 13mm thin and weighs less than 1.4kg.
Below: Thinness in comparison to a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.
Next, the Acer Instant Connect allow users to access the Internet in only 2.5 seconds , four times faster than conventional connections – so users can go faster for better productivity and infotainment enjoyment. There is no compromise.
Ok, for this I would need to actually test it out on a unit, which should be soon I hope!
In terms of material, this ultra-slim aerodynamic design laptop features a strong and lightweight aluminium or magnesium alloy chassis, and a lid with a fingerprint-free metal finish.
User has a choice of 320GB HDD with embedded SSD or 240GB SSD (expected to be available in Malaysia in November) for ultra-fast access and ample media and data storage. For sound, it’s Dolby® Home Theater® v4. Standard HDMI® output is also included.

Most of the ports are all located at the back. A few of us commented that that might be an issue; say for devices with really short wires, etc. I thought about it, and concluded that we are all just used to having USB ports at the sides of our laptops. Perhaps it’s just a matter of getting used to? Not sure…
“As the only Ultrabook with a HDD option, the Acer Aspire S3 Ultrabook offers the computing power and storage needs of a notebook, along with the mobile communication advantages of the smartphone and tablet PC,” say Ricky Tan, GM of Acer Sales & Services Sdn Bhd. “This is a major breakthrough in notebook design and will surely fortify our notebook competitiveness in the ICT market.”
Well, from initial impression it does seems so. Those who attended the launch this morning were all given media discount of RM1000 off the RRP of RM2599. So should I buy??

So how is the use of this lappy? I’m thinking of getting one as my current big chunk is giving me a real pain on my shoulder carrying it everyday.
I’m loving it so far!
I tell you, I totally hear u on the big chunk issue. I move ard a lot, and it hurts lugging the normal sized lappy around! The only think you may not like is the keyboard, which I took some time to get used to.
