2019: Visiting and shopping @ Design Village Premium Outlet Mall @ Bandar Cassia, Batu Kawan

Opened at the end of 2016, this “mall” is just about 2 years old, but didn’t seem to be as popular as JPO in Johor, Genting Premium Outlets in Genting, Freeport A’Famosa Outlet in Melaka or even Mitsui near KLIA2.
I’m guessing that it is the location. Or the brands available.

Whatever is it, I can certainly assure you that the “savings” or discounted rate aren’t that great.

I was returning from Penang and Dominic had wanted to grab something specific here so thanks to him, I can now claim that I’ve had visited Penang Design Village.
Had it been my regular KL-Penang trips I wouldn’t have made a stopover. In general I find these “affordable factory outlets” in Malaysia not worth the trouble. The prices are almost similar to the usual retails outlets with perhaps some exceptions here and there which requires luck (more than anything) to unearth anything of suitability in terms of both size, design and price.

Anyhow this was a week before Chinese New Year 2019 so I had thought that there will be some festive sales or markdowns. That was not the case though.

There were enough shops to keep you occupied for 2 hours at least if you’re the shopper type.
I did my rounds for kitchenware (Kitchen Shop Outlet), mid-range designer wear (Guess, Esprit), sports (Adidas, Under Amour), bedding (Akemi) and then went hunting for food.

Food section:

The layout is pretty straightforward, the place clean and general areas are pleasant with seats provided.
It is pretty “open air” concept; spacious and modern while the place is airy and green plus there is a kids section to keep little ones occupied while the family shops.

PS: You can refer to their outlets directory HERE: http://designvillage.today/directory/
Penang Design Village also offers the convenience of the covered carpark (2,500 parking bays) so you can drag your heavy purchases to the car without getting drenched if it rains.
As for location, it is next to the Penang second link bridge and the Northern IKEA.

Design Village opens daily from 10am to 10pm.
