Waffles @ Chequers KL, TTDI

Chequers serve handmade Waffles using premium local & seasonal ingredients set in a fun and whimsical atmosphere” – this was on their FB page and from my recent visit I daresay it is pretty spot-on.

Service is notably friendly and the staff are ever obliging; whether it was for mere recommendations from the menu or having to accommodate  a bit more about the menu.
Being the fuss-pot that I am, I asked if their smoothies are made using milk or yogurt and if real fruits are used or purees. I was assured that all natural ingredients are used and there is no sugar added.

Satisfied, I placed an order for a Banana Kiwi Smoothie and a “Moo Moo ” to share; described on the menu as ‘sirloin beef, cheddar, slaw, relish, crispy bacon, berries BBQ sauce‘.

Verdict?
It was pretty good, with mayhap a bit of improvement required on the patty.
The overall flavours worked like a burger; with meat, coleslaw and cheese thrown in. The waffle understandably stood in place of the usual bun since Chequers KL is all about waffles.

The portion is fair for RM22. The well sized beef patty was a teeny-wee bit dry but otherwise the whole creation was enjoyable as the crispy waffle, relish, slaw, bacon & BBQ sauce was well executed.

I foresee myself being a regular since this is close by to office. The venue is cosy and there is an outdoor dining area so I could avoid the air-con if I wish.
Both sweet and savoury waffles creations are available plus there are pasta and desserts as well so there should be something for everyone.
I think it is commendable that Chequers took effort to steer away from the done-to-death plain ice-cream + banana + fruits combo and the bacon + ice cream combo to create their own unique combinations for the waffles.

Likewise, I like how there are tweaks to the waffles itself; instead of relying on plain waffles for all of their creations.
I saw pumpkin spice, spinach and even a ‘deconstructed‘ tiramisu served with, well what else, waffles!
I look forward to a few more visits to see if everything are as promising as it sounds on the menu. Stay tuned. 🙂

I am terribly disappointed with my lunch visit today. I have ordered the ‘shroom fiesta’ in which it was suppose to have spinach waffle, grilled portobello, glaze cherry tomato, balsamic vinegar, rocket salad and shaved parmesan. The dish arrived without glazed cherry tomato and shaved parmesan. When I asked the waiter, he knew it was missing and just brushed it off by saying that the chef was new. I felt terribly cheated as I was charged RM 20 for something that was not delivered as described. On top of that the restaurant was not busy at all as it is Monday lunchtime, the chef had plenty of time to prepare the food properly. This will be my first and last trip to this place.
