To fix your lobsters cravings: Steaks & Lobsters @ Desa Sri Hartamas

Where do you head to to enjoy lobsters in the Klang Valley?
Specialty seafood restaurants like Unique Seafood? Lobsterman? Chinese restaurants? Restaurants within hotels? Red Lobster?

I don’t indulge in lobster often, and on average I eat lobster perhaps 3 -4 times a year, usually at events or buffets or during a food tasting.
Lobster just doesn’t strike most of us as an “ once a week treat“, simply because of the general impression that lobster are expensive.
Steaks suffered a similar fate for a long while, but now there are many outlets making angus, wet aged & even wagyu steaks affordable enough for the mid-income earners, so why not lobsters?

Nic, one of the founders of Steaks and Lobsters aims to make this posh delicacy more accessible and likewise; to shake things up a bit for lobster fans with his creative renditions of this coveted crustacean.

Steaks and Lobsters will begin operations this week with this Introductory Menu.
Stay patient, for his team is working on tweaking and finalizing their on-going experiments for a more elaborate menu.

I took the cue to brainwash him a bit here; rattling off ideas of a decadent lobster champagne brunch, a lobster big breakfast (with creamy scrambled eggs, brioche & potato pancakes) and Lobster Benedict for weekends as well as a lobster waffle, just because everybody is waffling now.

Steaks and Lobsters serves wines and beers as well, so we began dinner with a bottle of red together with some of their awesomely thick, rich milkshakes.
For novelty, try the BACON milkshake.

DUCK bacon was blended into a mix of ice cream and milk and you can actually feel the gritty texture of bacon on your tongue as you sip the milkshake.
Admittedly the bacon flavour wasn’t pronounced as we would like as the ice cream flavour stood out more. We suggested additional pieces of bacon to be sprinkled on top of the whipped cream for good measure.
After all, more bacon can’t be a bad thing right? 🙂
Besides the bacon milkshake, we also tried a Mango Avocado and Banana Chocolate version, both good.

This dinner is a hosted session for 4 pax of which I was one of the guests.
We had Nic’s company to explain the ingredients, his aspirations for the business and his ears for our feedback as we tucked into the protein-packed dinner that evening.

I would accord an overall the score of 6.5/10, with the appetisers and lobster shining over the steaks.
I cook steaks regularly at home and happened to have higher expectations when it comes to my red meat.
However, I assure you that the steaks are palatable.

Prices are fair (nett, no service or GST charges) considering the prime choices of meat; chilled, not frozen and some wet aged up to 2 weeks. Coveted parts like T-bone, rib-eye and sirloin are available, with choices of angus, grass fed or grain fed.
Each main comes with not one or two, BUT 4 sides, all painstakingly made-in-house, and certainly not your usual mound of lazy mash or a handful of commercial fries.

The lobster are standard + – 900g so you are paying nett prices per dish.

The appetisers came with specially researched-to-match sauces; some tangy, some rich, some sweet sour but all did a fabulous job of adding flavour to the dish, not that the chicken wings, portobello fries or the crab cakes needed enhancements, for on its own, the items mentioned were enjoyable enough.

Thumbs up for the juicy wings! 🙂

Escargots, half a dozen for RM18.

All meats and lobster are from Halal suppliers though the outlet serves alcohol.
The vibe is casual; with a menu that caters to solo, couple, small groups and large party dining.
It currently welcomes diners for dinners, but would be offering lunch (and maybe brunch) in the coming weeks.

Don’t eat beef? There’s chicken as well as lamb.

Just a week old, Steaks and Lobsters looks set to become Hartamas’s next favourite dining place.

Steaks and lobsters; such a sumptuous duo isn’t it? 🙂
I’ll be giving them a month before my next visit; this time for the T-bone and the lobster roll; the unusual lobster roll craving as a result of some friends who has been to London and kept telling me how good it was.
I’m betting on Steaks and Lobsters to fulfil my cravings before my London trip in 2016!
