Three Little Pigs & The Big Bad Wolf – Bangsar Village I

Where’s there’s burgers, there’ s Rebecca Saw. 😀

If you don’t already know, I’m a burger addict. I love breads and I love meat. Pork burgers holds a stronger pull over me in comparison to any other meat but I would enjoy a good burger anytime!

After 6 days in Nepal, I came back all geared up to chow down some good burgers. I have in my list pork burgers in Ante, Three Little Pigs & The Big Bad Wolf and Moon at Damansara.

Since I have already tried Ante’s burger, I headed over to Three Little Pigs & The Big Bad Wolf (what a mouthful!) for some porky action.

The outlet was easy enough to find. Sad to say, it took over the space of our beloved organic vegetarian outlet – Country Farm Organics.

Since I knew what I wanted, I immediately asked for their Mighty Pork Burger but was suddenly distracted with the Tonkatsu Sandwich so I ordered that instead. The waiter took my order and then came back 5 minutes later to inform me that it wasn’t available. Slightly annoyed, I went back to my initial order of pork burger, but with the usual request of no mayo or butter.

The order came as requested, which was a plus point. The taste however, missed the mark.
I’m known for my sensitivity to salt and it’s pretty normal for me to find food saltier than others who are eating the same dish. But for this, even my dining partner concurred that it was salty. The patty wasn’t the loosely grinded type that I normally prefer but at least the texture provided a firm bite. I guess the saltiness made it difficult for me to enjoy it.
Also, the whole ensemble has too much sauce and I certainly don’t remember requesting for chilli sauce on my burger! Look carefully at the picture below and you’ll get what I mean.

Moreover, I had a grouse with the egg. I had forgotten to request for a runny version but I was still pretty taken back to be served one cooked in a mould! Of course it didn’t effect the taste of the egg, but cooked in mould? It’s err.. quite amateurish isn’t it?

Anyhow this wasn’t a pork burger that I’ll recommend for sure. It was decent at best.

Mighty Piggy Burger. RM24.
Juicy pork patty, cheese, tomato, greens, fried egg, herbed mayo served with chips.

Moving on, we ordered a breakfast set since both of us love American breakfast. It was rather fancily named, and I could only wish the flavour matched up to its cushy name.

I’m So Hungry I Could Eat A Wolf. RM28.

Everything tasted run-of-the mill. Every ingredient was generic. The hashbrown was your frozen store bought ones. A few leaves & a cherry tomato was the side salad. The bread was hard and chewy although it was toasted.  My sunny side ups was cooked in the egg mold. The bacon was tough. Take a look at the beans and tell me if it looked appetizing to you? The sausage was of mediocre quality.

While I can understand this is Bangsar, I still think they could have offered better ingredients. Let’s compare this to other similar outlets within the vicinity shall we?

Antipodean All Day Breakfast (RM18+) with added pork sausage (RM8.00+). Total – RM26.00+ .

See the quality of the bread and meats served? These 2 slices was an additional order to the set you see above for RM7.00+.

RM32++. Just Heavenly Cafe Ridiculously Large Breakfast. For additional RM4 (compared to Three Little Pigs’ breakfast set at RM28++), you get juice, ricotta pancakes, LAMB sausages, good quality sourdough bread and even homemade marmalade!

Just Heavenly Cafe - ridiculously large breakfast-006

That’s just 2 as example. Don’t get me started with other outlets in Publika and KL.

Our last order was for a pasta.
This is the Rich Gorgonzola – RM26; cheesy spaghetti with chicken, asparagus and broccoli.
I can assure you that there wasn’t any sight of the fowl in this bowl. I was forewarned by the waitress that this is a creamy dish but she had neglected to mention that it was bland as well.

Frankly, our experience here was very disappointing. Considering the prices paid, food was mediocre at best. Anyhow, we had only sampled 3 dishes so please don’t let this stop you from visiting and trying it out yourself. Do  share with me your experience if you did find any of their other offerings worth recommending.

Hahaha! I failed to order the Tonkatsu Sandwich too…I think this place has a inconsistency issue with their food.

Since I m gonna revisit them again…we see if the food is consistent! =)

  3. Timing

Hmm, for those prices you might as well go to like J&R for breakfast/brunch. At least they don’t buy their sausages ‘off the rack,’ (no pork burgers though :P)

Wow, you really didn’t like the food huh?

“While I can understand this is Bangsar, I still think they could have offered better ingredients”… Wah Lau means Bangsar is now a second rate fine dining location? ;P

My colleague just had I’m So Hungry I Could Eat A Wolf today. It didn’t like your pic. The roast tomato wasn’t charred, the mushrooms were not black and the crispy bacon wasn’t black on the edges like yours. Each of the items on his plate were cooked just nice. Although I have to agree that there is nothig extra-ordinary about the dish, and they could have given better bread.

I had the grilled pork pesto spaghetti which was really good! The pesto sauce is nice and creamy. Another friend had the Wolf’s Favourite Spaghetti which was really good too. I would recommend others to try this place out.

Errr.. guess im not heading there anytime soon

I got food poisoning eating the mighty piggy burger yesterday. I felt like dying last night, it was the most painful feeling ever. It was so bad i pictured cutting my stomach open with a katana and letting all the air out because my stomach was as bloated as a puffer fish when it puffs up.

This sucks because I had a pretty good experience at the restaurant, the staff are polite and helpful, I am a big fan of the way the place is designed (hats off to the designer), i’m not there all the time but when I was the crowd was pretty decent.

So anyways, I am quite certain it was the burger that gave me food poisoning (I found out it was food poisoning after waiting in agony for the doctor for an hour!) because it was the only thing I ate for lunch and I didn’t eat anything between then and getting the stomach ache.

So in conclusion, I hope the company takes better care in the preparation of their food and maybe the way the food is thawed. If I wanted to spend 30 bucks on 12 trips to the toilet I’d walk myself into the closest guardian pharmacy and buy 5 bottles of laxative, down it like I just walked into zouk and then have a fking toilet party.

Oh dear I’m so sorry to hear that! I think you should tell them!
Also, while there are conflicting feedback about the food; some like it some don’t , you’re the first with a food poisoning case!
I hope you’re better now and remember to hydrate. But do think about going back to tell them about it,with your medical receipt so they know you’re serious!

“We don’t accept reservations on weekends. But since you are a party of 9, you can have the large room. But you only have an hour fifteen minutes, as we do have reservations for this room.”
    Wtf??
“This is because if you intend to spend over a thousand ringgit then we will reserve the room for you. The whole night, if needed.”
There. In a nutshell the priorities of the place. And to top it off, they misheard and served us 7 main course. Two of us have to leave hungry, as there was simply no time for correction of orders. As for food, burger was good, pasta way too oily and everything else average.

      Hi Eugene
So sorry to hear of this.
I hope you bought up the matter to the person-in-charge at the venue itself. As for the food, I havent returned since, but there has been good and bad reviews.
Also, I hope that overall your evening spent with family/friends was still enjoyable, though the dining experience may not be what you expected.

Here’s wishing you a better week ahead, and a better weekend with good food!
      Rebecca
