Coffee Crawl: The Brew Culture, Plaza Damas – Hartamas

The Brew Culture, facing the main road on Jalan Sri Hartamas seemed easy enough to locate. Would you believe it if we told you it took us 30 minutes wondering around the ground floor to find it?

We parked at Hartamas Shopping Centre and walked over using the connecting pedestrian bridge. The Brew Culture is located on the first floor, and thus we had to look for a elevator or staircase to get to it. Cutting a long story short, the directions would be to” turn left immediately after you came out of the bridge, even before you pass the glass see though lift you’ll see in front of you.” The stairway to coffee heaven is just on your right, a few steps after you have turned left.

First impressions were positive, thanks to the very cheery baristas and warm service. Greetings rang out as soon as we stepped in. The helpful barista then proceeded to assist us in the selection of our food and drinks.

I moved into the sitting area of the cafe to grab a table and the bright, colourful made me feel at home immediately.

The splashes of colour and cute, quirky decorations around the area added personality to the cafe.

Can you guess what is this?

Our orders took a while to be served. Out of all the cuppas we ordered, everyone loved the Hazelnut Latte. It hit all the right notes for flavour, smoothness and the added hints of freshly roasted nuts made it a winner.

Kevin’s Cappuccino w/ Extra Shot.
His verdict: Prepared using a blend of beans from Columbia, Brazil and Papua New Guinea, this cup of cappuccino is smooth with a great mouthfeel thanks to the milk. While it lacks the fruity notes due to the beans used, it made up for it with a velvety, slightly bittersweet taste which should appeal to most coffee drinkers.

I had wanted a good cup of hot cocoa to make up for my disappointment with the Double Mocha earlier at Coffea Coffee. The barista said they used Zuma cocoa powder and warned me that it could be on the sweeter side. Thus I  scrapped the idea and opted for a Avocado Milkshake (RM11) instead.

It turned out to be a good choice; creamy with enough hint of buttery avocadoes yet wasn’t cloyingly rich. I could actually finish almost the whole glass on my own.

I ordered a Lamb shepherd (RM9.90) as well since I was hungry.

The garnishing at the side is a waste of vegetables but the pie itself was indeed wholesome and fresh. The mash could do with a bit of added creaminess and I would prefer more lamb for my buck. Overall it’s a decent pie although not entirely recommendable.

KC’s superbly powerful and bitter very “short” shot of expresso coffee made from blended Columbia, Brazil and Papua New Guinea beans almost knock him out cold with caffeine. He took a sip of the Hazelnut Latte and he said he would have preferred that instead!

In general, feedback has been positive about The Brew Culture. Some of my social shares showed that The Brew Culture has garnered some die-hard fans 🙂

Overall I liked The Brew Culture. It offers more than just coffee and hot chocolate on its menu and there’s food available as well. The enthusiastic service and helpful baristas does a lot to make patrons feel welcomed. And a bonus point to all of the above is the concept and charm of the place with its colours and quirky knick-knacks. You would be a grinch if this failed to make you smile! 🙂

ooo, i’m directionally challenged too, but i think the easiest way to get here might be to park in front of the building and just walk up the stairs, since i faces the main road. i think the more difficult one to find for most people would be top brew coffee, since it’s hidden at the back. but ya, this is a great place, a calm, lovely refuge 😀

Actually we could find Top Brew easily enough as it was on the ground floor and we kept walking around that area. Almost given up on Brew Culture!
Yea, thought it would be easier to locate Brew Culture considering that it’s just facing the road! It was the hidden stairs that was tricky! 😛
