The Launch of Fahrenheit 88, Bukit Bintang

Yesterday was the soft launch of Fahrenheit 88, Bukit Bintang. The most FAQ by everyone was “What about Uniqlo??“, which is one of the anchor tenants here in Fahrenheit 88, (the other being Signature IT ) but that is scheduled to be opened only in November 2010.

But no worries, Fahrenheit is still worth checking out if you are within the vicinity. After all, isn’t the above a far cry and a tremendous improvement from the dilapidated facade of KL Plaza?

Below: Dato’ Lee Tuck Fook, Director of Makna Mujur Sdn Bhd (L) & Datin Cindy Lim, Deputy Chairman of Kuala Lumpur Pavilion Sdn Bhd (R) celebrating fahrenheit88’s soft opening.

Inside, striking models in retro, bright outfits provided the best backdrop for photo opportunity, both for the media & visitors alike.

Even I couldn’t resist! 😉

The media Q & A was at LG2, Celcius Restaurant.

The outlet actually opens out to face Jalan Walter Granier, and efforts were taken to beautify the surroundings, which is a smart thing to do, considering the area.

…followed by a familiarisation tour of the mall. I love lights & airiness hence this new & sleek facade had my approval immediately. The glass “dome” allows natural sky light to illuminate the concourse.

One of the F & B outlets that is really NEW (in KL) is Midori Japanese Steamboat & Buffet restaurant. I wanted to make a reservation for tomorrow & googled for info. Apparently there is a similarly named Jap restaurant in Putrajaya Marriot so I called but subsequently found out that they are not the same. I guess I will just drop in tomorrow & hope for the best, since Twitter @fahrenheit88 wasn’t much of a help when I tweeted it for the number.

Marutama Ra men is one of Singapore’s reputable ramen restaurants, based from what I have read from Sg food blogs. Well, there’s only one way to find out 😉 .

And of course this would catch my eye. Cream & Fudge Factory! I hope they open SOON, and I meant really SOON.

What else is new, you ask?

Hhmmm, other than UNIQLO….? Fahrenheit 88 is targeted at vibrant, creative & stylish urban crowd between 15 – 30 years (meaning people like us who are constantly in need of entertainment & distraction) who are drawn to the hippest fashion, in-vogue tech gadgets, and the trendiest F & B outlets.

Unlike its sister mall, Pavilion KL (yes, it is managed by the same company), Fahrenheit 88 target market is slanted towards the mid-range income group individuals, who looks for value propositions for the products & services they acquire. Also, it claims to have a number of distinctive shops whose merchandise offers unique & one of its kind items.

But of course; some familiar, very saleable brands are here too.

At the 3rd level is Signature IT – another of Fahrenheit 88 anchor tenants, which is termed the Gadgets Hot Spot.

The layout on this floor totally differs from the others. It is very industrial, with open ceilings and plain stark walls.

I took a quick peep of the washroom as well 😉 .  Verdict? Functional & plain.

yup, when my friend and i ate at celsius last week, we had to walk through the jln walter grenier side, because the mall wasn’t open from inside yet. it was kinda weird, but interesting, with the snazzy interior of the restaurant facing the older facade of the shophouses on the street 😀

    1. Rebecca

Yes, it is stil weird (loss of all exclusivity vibe) when I walked out & saw where I was!

I can’t wait for uniqlo! I absolutely love it but then again, it might be different from uniqlo in other countries…

Like how Zara varies from country to country

    1. Rebecca

Oh? Hhmm..didn’t knw thta Zara varies from country to country!
Well, Uniqlo is the only differentiating factor here so I do hope it doesnt disappoints!

    1. Rebecca

Err…it’s being built for something diiii.. perhaps you have not been to the KL city for a long time!

  3. Leo

*cross fingers* and hope that it will be another happening place in town… but then, the choice of name is rather odd and quirky don’t u think???

    1. rebeccasaw

Hmm.. for me not so, cos fahrenheit88 refers to the almost equivalent temperature in KL in celsius 😉

  4. yamii

    1. rebeccasaw

  5. WaLauWei

Why is it called Fahrenheit 88? I do not think it is 31 Celsius inside… 😛

Look nice after the renovation. Let’s hope it does not become a white elephant like before…

    1. rebeccasaw

It is “almost ” to our weather laa.. ard 37 celcius. and you know the Chinese’s obsession with ‘8’ rite? ;p

  6. TummyRumble

Hi, is wonder if you try on the Midori Japanese Steamboat & Buffet restaurant in the end? Is it good? And what about the price?

    1. Rebecca

      Hi there!
We didnt try in the end but we did walk in to check it out.Reason we walked out its cos we wanted solely Jap but Midori is international buffet.

There is Jap section, dim sum, cantonese stir fry, Jap steamboat, lots of desserts, local delicacies etc. more like Seisaki at UOA KL & Jogoya.
Cant rmbr the exact $, but the Buffet is abt RM70 – 80 per pax. 1130am to 230pm.
Let me find the namecard again & I’ll give u the number.

  10. Noushin

And what does Celcius Restaurant serve? Thx!

    1. Rebecca

What we had that day ws buffet for the event so not sure if its the same fr their menu.
But they did give us their menu, let me check. It’s probably fusion.

The Guardian pharmacy shop located at Lower Ground Floor in Fahrenheit shop is cheating and place incorrect price tag. On 12/10/2010, at 1:30pm, I went to this shop and buy Neutrogena Cleaner at RM16.88 each and 2nd item at 50% discount as the tag shown. When I pay at counter, they say no discount for 2nd item, I argue with them over the tag is showing 50% discount for the cleanser.

I argue with them and they never apology and don’t want to honor the discounted price and admit their mistake.

It is their mistake and not mine. I as consumer and I felt cheated by this shop for incorrect price tag.

I complaint it to their manager and the manager (Cik Irwana and cashier Kamarul) insists don’t want to sell the item at discounted price for 2nd item.

I advise you all, not buy anything from this shop because the people who worked there is not friendly and have no manners at all.

  15. DShopper

Nothing special, especially the fashion floor, u can find T’Shirt for RM10 (a shop called”www”)and a dress for RM19 (a shop called “mirrorcle”) offer kind of cheap & lala stuff, no standard! after all it’s just another Sg Wang & Times Square! Infact some of the tenants are from there too. Disappointed.

  16. Loh Jon Ming

Hi rebecca, My name is Jon Ming. I’m doing a small study on Fahrenheit 88’s target market, attractiveness to tenants, etc. I came across your blog searching for fahrenheit 88 events. Did you receive any digital content in a press kit during the soft launch? If you did, could I have a look?

If it’s inappropriate to disseminate such information, then it’s okay don’t mind. me I’d be sorry to intrude.

    Thanks alot!
