The Ascott at Sathorn Bangkok, Thailand

I have been most fortunate this time, for out of the previous 5-6 trips to Bangkok (too bad I wasn’t a blogger back then so there are no write-ups of my experiences), I have never stayed anywhere like this.
Mostly my accommodation is at budget hotels, or backpackers like the time I was in Singapore. I can only hope Tune Hotels opens one in Bangkok soon!
Warning: Video not that great. I was exhausted & airsick from the flight, but you get the idea 😉

Well, all the comfort & luxury explains the bill 😉

Note: Amount for 4 days 3 nights. UnkaLeong gets corporate rate though.

Welcome gift – A nice touch, though I wondered why it is in my name & not UnkaLeong’s.

welcome

The Ascott Sathorn Bangkok offers the convenience of being located in the capital’s business and commercial district. The nearest BTS (Bangkok Mass Transit System) is Chong Nonsi and it is walking distance from the hotel.

We stayed in a studio, & from what I gleaned from the Ascott’s website, there are 177 luxurious serviced residences ranging from studio, one, two and three-bedroom units here. Each unit is superbly spacious, has a fully equipped kitchen, televisions (not LCDs though), well – divided areas for study, wardrobe, kitchen, living room & bedroom.

Our kitchen: Fridge, microwave, induction stove, water kettle, toaster & a washing machine!

The shopping and entertainment districts along Silom and Sukhumvit roads are just minutes away (not walking distance ) but it is easy to hop into a cab at the hotel lobby or a tuk-tuk right outside the hotel.

As expected, service is impeccable, courteous & helpful but with genuine warmth. No forced smiles or overly enthusiastic demeanour.

Pics below taken from Ascott Sathorn Bangkok website, since no photo-taking was allowed.
The gym was marvellous. Seriously, it is HUGE & it spans 2 floors. Naturally, there are studios for private classes & there is even a studio just for Pilates. The equipments were amazing (I saw Cybex & LifeFitness) & impressive even if you were to go by the sheer number of machines available. All the machines were properly spaced out, ensuring no untoward accidents or any form of hindrance to your exercise movements.

The gym is actually a private club, but as hotel guests we got free usage. Both of us had a good workout during one of the mornings we were there. Hey, I know it’s a holiday but to both of us, fitness is a lifestyle  And, yes laaa, partly guilty from all the Thai food gorging we did 😉

The swimming pool is not very big, maybe just about 20 feet in length? Deck chairs & small covered pavilions dotted the surrounding area, providing guests an option of sun-bathing + swimming or just relaxing & enjoying the outdoors.

Overall I didn’t have any complains throughout my 4 days 3 nights stay. The staff were the epitome of Thai hospitality. The location is perfect. The little extras like L’occitane shampoo, shower gels, (serious!), SPEEDY wireless connection (a must for me!) & soft fluffy pillows were much much appreciated! 😉
