Super Delight Dim Sum House @ Aman Suria – really good dim sum!

For me, this is one of the better dim sum house around the area of PJ, Tropicana and Aman Suria.

Newly opened, it has amassed quite a following in its short period of business. The reason is apparent. The dim sum is tasty and it is not too expensive.

I find most, if not all (or at least for the ones I have sampled) of their dim sum really good, well prepared and wonderfully fresh.

Let’s start with my favourite; the porky Char Siew Pau (RM1.70 ). The buns are soft but the texture wasn’t as fluffy as those in hotels. But for its price, I’m certainly not going to complain.

Especially since the filling is quite substantial too, unlike some joints where it’s mostly thick gravy and oily bits.

RM4.80 – Char Koay Kak.
I like my carrot cakes fragrant with “wok-hei” (smoky charred flavour from the heat of the wok) and non-greasy. Thus I don’t agree with the blackish ones sold at night markets and hawker stalls.
The one I like, is as exactly as below; dry, generously fried with crunchy bean sprouts, with big thick carrot cakes and eggs.

super delight (2)

Siew Mai – RM4.30. Big in size and meaty. No cheating with chunks of pork fat here. Good stuff!

super delight (9)

Prawn Dumplings – RM4.30.

super delight (4)

I hate it when my prawns are coated with a layer of flour under the dumplings skin. The ones here has a bit of coating but it’s not thick so it was acceptable. And each fat dumpling was stuffed with fresh, bouncy prawn meat under its translucent skin.

Same goes for the Chee Cheong Fun we ordered. The rice sheets wasn’t as silky and smooth as I would have liked but the soy sauce and chilli plus the copious amount of prawns between its folds made up for it.

And yes, there’s copious amount of prawns in between its folds. You do get your money’s worth!

Another must-order for me during a dim sum session is steamed fish balls. The ones here, as you would have guessed by now, was good, with decent fishy flavour and a very homemade feel.

Some of the Yong Tau Foo offerings, including the stuffed brinjals and chillis was very well prepared as well. Again, in comparison to other joints, you get substantially a fatter chunk of fish meat in your yong tau foo.

We tried the porridge as well.

Flavourful, smooth gruel teeming with pork meat and century egg.

Though I avoid fried items during my dim sum sessions for obvious reasons, the Sui Kow/Fried Gouza – RM4.30 was really worth the calories! Again, it was the filling; a good blend of vegetables, meat, prawns that made it so nice. As you can see from below, the sui kow is plump with very little excess skin at the corners.

super delight (3)

I didn’t eat so many items in one visit of course! These were accumulative from numerous visits and the good food prompted my return again and again here.

One time, I dropped in for lunch and tried their roast fowl.

I loved the duck, slow braised with a marvellous (though subdued) herbal aftertaste. That sets it apart from the usual roast duck. The roast chicken was commendable as well; with the usual prerequisite fundamentals of tender, moist, etc all present.

One of my favourite is this – Mussels, Pork and Prawn “dumpling” in a shell.

Juicy meat paste with one whole mussel. Delicious! 🙂

Lastly (or at least for this post!), we liked the steamed pork ribs & lor mai kai as well. Actually there was nothing that I felt a need to complain about. I can’t remember all the prices, but it was reasonable considering the location, ingredients & portion.

Below: The lor mah kai was packed with ingredients; sizeable chunks of chicken meat, mushrooms, pork and preserved sausages.

I washed it all down with hot, fresh soya – RM2.00 (not the bottled kind mind you!) since I don’t drink tea.

And oh, the sauces are not bad either.

This has been my regular dim sum joint recently. I prefer it over Hong Kee or Jin Xuan anytime. I personally thought it triumphs over Yuan Garden at SS2 and Key Hiong at Taman Megah too!

Halal dim sum its hard to get. I mean for cheap price la. Unless you go to hotel, or exclusive restaurant

    1. rebeccasaw

Halal dim sum – yes, normally in hotels only. And not cheap..
But I heard in Kota Damansara there’s a halal dim sum but I can’t rmbr the name

I personally don’t like this dim sum shop. Food not really up to even the good category. Been once and will not return again. Quite empty at weekend morning, that’s a sign saying “avoid” or at least “proceed with caution”.

Wow! Thks fr your comment. I been there 4 times and each time – for whatever I ordered, was all good and steaming fresh. Went 3 weeks back on a Sat mornin & it was packed.

gosh, if someone asked me where to find a great non-hotel dim sum in KL, i’d stare blankly for awhile. but i love Char Koay Kak too. used to eat it in malacca when i was a kid, and it was always nice there 😀

    1. rebeccasaw

Oh, I’m fussy so I only like the hotel ones, cos they don’t do it so black and oily!
I think the Melaka fried carrot cake are different!

    1. rebeccasaw

Yes, for PJ area, it’s pretty decently priced. Also the portion and quality. Can’t compare with hotels, but heck even some hotel ones I had wasn’t as good.

      Why not! 🙂
I havent been able to see u fr a while!

I went to try this place yesterday with my parents in the morning, since you gave it a pretty promising review. When I got there around 830am, there was only one other person at the shop, not a good sign, but I’m game to try, so I went ahead.

The dimsum isn’t bad, but it’s nothing to shout about either. The siew mai is the only one worth mentioning, as it is pretty well stuffed, but I’ve had better in various other places. The disappointing thing about the siew mai is that your picture has 4 pieces per serving, and at RM4.30, that’s pretty worth it. I ordered 3 times and got 3 pieces per RM4.30 serving, which isn’t that cool, felt misled 🙁

The cheecheong fun skin was a little too thick, but I guess that’s a preference. The bad news is that my har gao (prawn thingy) came with hair on it too 🙁 I didn’t make a fuss, since these things happen, but just thought I’d mention it. http://imgur.com/NxB51

Dad said the porridge was bland, I felt it was tasteless, but mom gave them the benefit of the doubt saying that maybe they didn’t use ajinomoto. But it was tasteless anyways.

The strange thing is that they charged me RM1/head when I brought my own tea leaves, most coffee shops only charge me like RM1-2 regardless of how many people I have (there are only 3 of us). It’s not a big deal of course, since it’s a buck difference, but considering that this place is already very expensive, it’s a little disappointing. The auntie there is rather friendly, which is good, but to be honest, my parents and me unanimously decided that we won’t be coming here again.

Just my honest feedback, hope it doesn’t offend anyone 🙂

      Hi Matt
Siew mai – it’s just 3. for my pic I cut one into 2 to show the insides.
chee cheong fun – yup, i already mentioned tht it’s not the silky smooth type.
Porridge – hmm noted. I like mine bland i supposed. or when i had it it wasnt bland.
The hair thing – sorry, can’t help with that but you should have told them. I would made a complain actually.
Tea – I didn’t order nor bring my own tea leaves so I won’t know how they charge.
Oh, doubt anyone will be offended. Thanks for your feedback.

i have had so many times dimsum in this shop.few simple reason keep me come back again and again:
    (1) all the dimsum are really freshly made everyday. i have dropped by once to try my luck “da bao’ as i saw they open until everning. actually they are making dimsum for the next morning.
(2)dimsun are made with fresh pork while other dimsum shop using frozen pork (i met the boss several time in morning market) you can taste the difference. i have once asked the boss why wasting time buying stuff in the market because there are many supplier in the mkt. he insists good ingredients made quality food. that is why you and me keep going back. although the shop environment is not impressed, which i think the reason for reasonable price of the food.
(3)if you are really a health concerned person. i mean, less salt, less sugar, less ajinomoto….better not to have it at all. but some may complaint tasteless! most people’s tastebud has been polluted by many so called tasteful food. have they really check it out how can it be tasteful?
i personally compared this dimsum with other dimsun shops in PJ. i still prefer this one.
