Stickhouse @ Sunway Pyramid – Italian Gelato!

Bad day, good day, sick, healthy, rich or poor, I’m game for gelato or froyo anytime!

My latest gelato pig-out was a record of 12 different flavours at one go just last Sat at the spanking new Stickhouse at Sunway Pyramid.
Yes, yes, Stickhouse has reached the shores of Malaysia. A pure Italian brand, Stickhouse prides itself on its traditional homemade art of making gelatos.

Though new, their 2 KL outlets already offers amazing variety. And of course I had to try them ALL!

Below: There’s either Classic or Premium range from Stickhouse’s Gelato OR Sorbet flavours.

I hate sorbets in general but the sorbets here are not too sour (except for the Lemon flavour one) and the fruity flavour is intensely satisfying.

From the apple, watermelon, grape and strawberries ones that I sampled, I can vouch that the flavours are real, full-bodied and fresh!

Left to Right: Watermelon (sorbet), Grape (sorbet) and Green Tea (gelato).

Left to Right: Lemon (sorbet), Strawberry (sorbet) and Coffee (gelato).

Stickhouse’s gelatos are made using 100% natural and genuine ingredients without added any flavouring, preservative and coloring. So the beautiful colours you see on all of Stickhouse’s gelatos and sorbets are produced purely by the tea/fruits or chocolate added.

To top it off, Stickhouse’s gelatos and sorbets are 100% NATURAL! YAY!

But of course, the toppings are not fat- free. And do note that fat-free does not equate to SUGAR – FREE. (Heheh…Just had to point that out! I’m a nutrition-freak and I’m very particular about ingredients and calories!)

For each of the gelato or sorbet you chose, you have the option of coating it with dark, milk or white chocolate covering and then sprinkling it with hazelnut, almond or pistachio grains.

I like mine plain (no additional calories for me please!) but I had a few with the coating just for sampling purposes.

Below: DARK chocolate! Yums.

I prefer mine with pistachio. Yes I have expensive taste, that I know.

One last drizzle over my gelato-on-a-stick with white chocolate!

Stickhouse gelatos are produced using ONLY 100% natural and genuine ingredients used without adding artificial flavouring, colouring, or preservative.

Their gelatos/sorbets are made with fresh fruit, milk and cream together with the “Stickhouse Bases“.

Just what do they have in the bases that is so healthy? Well, check out the ingredients below:
Inulin – A vegetable fibre extracted from chicory, inulin increases the absorption of calcium, aids digestion, and reduces cholesterol.
Fructose – A low glycemic index (GI) natural product contained in fruits, honey and some vegetables and plants. It’s suitable for fine recipes and light diets.
Carob Bean Flour – They are a wonderful gift of nature. Recommended for digestive disorders. In the ice-cream recipe they work as a natural stabilizer.
Sodium Caseinate – It’s a high quality protein product obtained by fresh pasteurized skimmed milk.
Egg White – It’s an excellent pure protein source with a high biological value, fat free. In the ice cream recipe, it helps to blend air into the mixture, naturally.

Stickhouse claims that their coatings of pure chocolate are good for you too!

TECHNIQUES.

Apart from using healthy ingredients, the techniques used in the production of their stick gelatos make a huge difference too. A lot of ice cream manufacturers churn their ice cream by ‘whipping’ their ingredients and adding air, which increases the volume of any frozen dessert. It is a fact that manufacturers take full advantage of this to produce and sell more of their product.

The air added to ice creams could go up to 120%, and even high quality ice creams have air added as much as 50%. By adding air, most of the ingredient’s original and natural flavors are lost. To compensate such loss, the ice cream producers are forced to use artificial flavors.

Gelatos on the other hand, uses a slower churning method, and have an average of only 25% air resulting in a denser, creamer texture than that of ice cream. It also retains more of the original flavors of the ingredients used.
Now having said that, Stickhouse gelatos are produced WITHOUT ADDING AIR. Yep, ZERO air is added in their production, so the denser and creamier texture with full taste and flavors you feel when enjoying one of their gelato are 100% genuine and natural.

Stickhouse even have flavors suitable for people who are intolerant to gluten, lactose and sugar!

So what are you waiting for? Go get your gelato-on-a-stick ASAP!  :P
