Sheraton Bali Kuta Resort – Deluxe Ocean View Room

I uploaded a video of the room a few days back and I wonder if you have seen it?

A video portrays the layout of the room much better than pictures alone (and also because I it’s hard work editing a video so WATCH IT ok? :P) so hit the play button if you haven’t alright? 🙂

KL to Bali is just a short 3 hours flight. I landed at Ngurah Rai airport in the afternoon and realized immediately it was a busy airport for a small island. As expected it was busy with leisure travellers (no business suits spotted!) and while waiting to pass immigration, it hit me that the airport is ill-equipped to handle the heavy tourist traffic.

Anyhow, once I passed all the necessary check points (which took me an hour) I found the representative from Sheraton Bali Kuta Resort easily enough. Sue Lynn (bangsarbabe) was on the same flight as well and since she hasn’t appeared, I told the rep that I’ll scurry quickly to grab an Indonesian SIM card. The airport & sim card experience would be in another post, and to cut a long story short, I didn’t manage to get one at the airport.

Bali is a hot hot humid island. Even for someone who loves the warmth of the sun, I find it unbearable at times. Thank goodness our rep got our transportation arranged swiftly enough and soon we are in a comfortable van heading to the resort. The ride was smooth (none of the horrendous Bali traffic everyone is telling me about) and the welcoming sight of the Sheraton Bali Kuta Resort greeted us after a 30-40 minutes journey.

Sheraton Bali Kuta Resort drop-off area is on the 2nd floor of the resort and it’s actually it’s back of the resort. The front of the resort faces Kuta Beach (Yes, we are right smack in the middle of vibrant, bustling Kuta!) and the hotel is convenient linked to BeachWalk, a shopping mall with pretty good local, designer and international brands as well as F & B outlets.

Arrival:

A water feature wall greets you the moment you step into the arrival lounge. Together with beautiful Balinese dancers, a man industriously beat a welcome tune as the gong was sounded.
Here, every guests’ arrival is given a ceremonious welcome! Sweet! 😀

And towards both left and right from the resort are lively lounges and pubs, restaurants, cafes and fast food joints as well as a small shopping street. Get your manicure, pedicure, massage, SIM cards, beers and so forth within walking distance!

The lobby and reception is on the 3rd floor and directly above the arrival lounge. 2 tall escalators (as well as lifts) takes guests up and down.

On the same floor, The Lounge offers live music, cocktails and a view of the pool and beyond. A large desk and comfortable chairs allows guests to sit back and work if they need to while at another section guests can relax and enjoy the cable TV.

During my stay, I sat here and worked at times; just for a change of surroundings from just being in the room.

Check in was a little shaky for me as there were an oversight in the duration of my stay. While Sue Lynn and her hubby was served both welcome drinks and towels, our party was only given welcome drinks. Once I got the stay duration sorted, I headed quickly to my room, hopeful that the solace and air conditioning would improve my flu-stricken self and frazzled nerves.

Our assigned accommodation was the Deluxe Ocean View Room which overlooks the garden and beyond to the sea. I had no complains with the room as it met my expectations for a resort of its class and price range. Sheraton rooms are generally modern and conventional in design and this was no exception, though there were minor contemporary touches here and there.

In line with recent interior trend, Sheraton Bali Kuta rooms did install this rather popular room to washroom glass feature.
Spot me? 🙂

Or perhaps the purpose of this see-through glass is better illustrated below.  😀

Sheraton Sweet Sleeper™ Bed constitute of plush mattress, fine cotton sheets, cozy duvet and super soft pillows that had me sleeping soundly every night despite my flu. The Sweet Sleeper Bed was both downy yet firm. It simultaneously provides good posture support with prerequisite blissful sink-on-the-bed feel.

Some rooms provide a work desk and that’s about it. For me, I appreciate having a lounge chair as well as it provides a comfortable rest spot for light reading and rest, especially so if you’re in a resort hotel where you’re not likely to rush from one meeting to another and might be spending more time in the room.

That said, work desk at leisure resorts are likely to be smaller. Even at Pangkor Laut Resort and Tanjung Jara Resort, the work desk is pretty small. Perhaps it’s to discourage work while one is on holiday. 🙂

With the recent travel habits of the digital age travelers, I have noticed in my recent visits to newer hotels that many more powerpoints are provided per room and even an international one just in case you forgot your travel adapter.
WIFI is available throughout the resort and the speed is steady and fast. And if this internet addict here doesn’t have any complains, you can be assured that the WIFI is reliable!

deluxe room sheraton bali kuta beach-024

In addition to that, I really appreciate powerpoints at bedside tables, cos I fall asleep holding my phone while whatsapp-ing or FB-ing! Thus it’s convenient for me to just plug it in to charge as I type. Once I’m awake, voila, phone is fully charged!

deluxe room sheraton bali kuta beach-021

And the best part? There are powerpoints on both sides of the bed. No need for squabbling for those who are sharing rooms.

I have never watched TV while on holiday but it’s good to have a TV in the room in any case.

The spacious spa-inspired bathrooms are beautifully appointed with freestanding bathtubs and rainforest showers. The water pressure is good though the heater takes a while to work.

I’m the sort who doesn’t pack my dental kit when I travel and as expected, there were dental kits provided as well as the usual washing gel, shampoo, hair conditioner, shower cap, body lotion and soap. Unfortunately  there weren’t any cotton buds/facial wipes/sewing kit.

deluxe room sheraton bali kuta beach-008

But at least there were separate rooms for lavatory and the shower, a convenience that I favour.

More standard amenities includes a hairdryer, safe, bathrobes, slippers, iron and even a torchlight. Besides 2 large towels for showers, there are 2 face towels plus 2 medium sized towels. I like having 3 different sized towels because even at home I use 3! One only for face, another for hands and the large one only for shower.

Another noteworthy essential are the slippers! These are not just soft fragile bedroom slippers but actual slippers that you can slip on and walk on the streets.

I dislike city hotels in general because most do not have balconies and open windows. I’m a lover of bright sunlight and fresh air and I find it unforgivable if a beach or country resort doesn’t have a balcony. Happily enough for me, Sheraton Bali Kuta units comes with a private balcony.

The usual coffee making facilities comes with complimentary tea and coffee sachets. I wonder when will hotels start providing hot chocolate? 😛

The mini bar.

Which we emptied so we could stock our beers. LOL!

The pool, the spa and the fitness centre ensures good mind and body wellbeing while on holiday. But more on that will be in a separate post.

During one of my solitary morning walks I managed to capture this shot of the rising sun from the arrival area. Nice isn’t it? 🙂

Rates for Sheraton Bali Kuta Resort is currently around USD180 (for rooms) and USD270 – USD430 for the suites. For more information on the room, surf over to http://www.sheratonbalikuta.com/rooms/deluxe-ocean-view.
I would recommend Sheraton Bali for families and travelers looking for an indulgent and comfortable stay in Kuta. Food is good (check out the breakfast spread HERE), the property is well maintained and the service commendable, though for now the resort being new still has some maintenance work ongoing.
