Second Helpings Singapore & Peanut Butter Factory KL – Chunky Peanut, Cashew Butter & Almond Butter

I’m not entirely a hardcore peanut butter /nut spread fan but just like instant noodles it is one of those items that I’ll buy in every country that I have visited.
Europe’s supermarket shelves are amazing and I recall seeing some really good ones while I was in The Netherlands.
Even Singapore’s range of nuts spreads on its supermarkets’ shelves beats Malaysia’s anytime.

Having said that, I had moved away from buying commercial nut spreads a while back.

I started with Joey’s Peanut Butter as he was the first Malaysian (that I know of) that went commercial making peanut butter and selling them from home.
While his was ok, it didn’t quite hit the spot for me as I found it to be too mild.

Next I sampled Nuts Enough and was bowled over by the rich and and nutty taste of their nut spreads.
Having funky and creative flavours like Cookie Dough Cashew Spread (RM 25) and Dark Chocolate Cashew Spread (RM 25) does add to the novelty factor.

Done with Joey and Nuts Enough,  I moved on to try the butters from Second Helpings, a local food entrepreneur from Singapore. Yes, I lugged 2 jars of these spreads home via my check-in luggage! 😛

They have one more flavour which is the original (Ori Beenut Butter) but I decided against that since that would be too ordinary.
I’ll go into detail about these 2 but meanwhile you can check them out here–> https://www.facebook.com/secondhelpings.sg
I got both for SGD24 (about RM64.80) so yeah, IT IS NOT CHEAP!

Now back to Peanut Butter Factory KL.

These are the ones I bought from them –  Chunky Peanut Butter (RM 15), Cashew Butter (RM 28), Almond Butter (RM35). The total is RM78 (each jar is 250g) and I felt a twinge of pain when I paid else I would have bought the Cranberry Nut and Kaya ones too! 🙂

They took the word “chunky” quite literally here. Look at how thick and the size of the peanuts in the bottle!
I love the full, roasty aroma each time I open the jar to spoon some into my greedy mouth!

But my favourite nut spread from the Peanut Butter Factory KL is the Cashew Butter. I love the creamy and delicate flavour of cashews as it has a much richer and sweeter taste.

The Almond Butter is the most expensive of all but I didn’t like it because it has an almost bitter-ish aftertaste to it.
I ate them on its own (no bread, etc) so maybe that could be the reason why I’m more sensitive to that slight aftertaste?

I’m really impressed and happy that we have enterprising Malaysians who made such delicious products. I don’t see why we would need to buy commercial nut spreads anymore and subject our body to all the (high probability of) flavourings, colourings and preservatives spreads! 🙂

Stay tuned as I have finished all the 3 bottles above already so you can expect me to buy more local nut spreads to test! Guess which is next?

    Goody!
I think I’ll give the chunky peanut here a try and the cookie one from Nuts Enough. Both offer dissimilar types of spread – good choices for us!

Looks good! Big fan of PB too. Anyway, if you have the chance to drop by Singapore again, you may want to give http://wildbutterco.com a try! They have really interesting flavours 😀
