With the impending approach of GST and the current instability of fuel prices, increases of prices for good across all sectors are more likely than not to continue.
As a foodie I feel it most when I dine out.
And since food is one of the basic necessities in life, the rising cost affects all of us; the poor, the rich, the middle class.
It’s a sad fact. Dining out is now more painful than ever on the pocket and I’m sure there are many of us who had had experienced paying for a very expensive meal (north of RM100/pax) and left the restaurant feeling disappointed.
The truth is, an expensive meal doesn’t guarantee the best dining experience.
As a foodie, I’ve had my fair share of both the positive and negative.
Earlier this year, I’ve had a sudden thought. Wouldn’t it be helpful for my readers if I start a weekly/bi-monthly feature of F & B outlets that offers really good food with quality ingredients yet reasonably priced?
With that thought in mind, I decided that my first feature would be the newly launched ROCKU Yakiniku at Pavilion KL.
Despite its location in one of the prime shopping malls in the heart of KL, ROCKU Yakiniku offers a truly value for money dining experience complete with entertainment, warm service and a unique dining ambiance.
The sole dining option here is buffet.
But your option of ingredients to nosh on include pork, beef, fish, squid, scallops, mussels, prawns and vegetables.
In addition to the BBQ items, a generous spread of cooked food consisting of pork patties, teriyaki chicken, salads, Korean kimchi, cawanmushi, pasta, chicken karaage, soba, gyoza and popular appetisers of chuka kuraage, chuka iidako (seasoned baby octopus) and chuka wakame ensured your money’s worth many times over.
Expect to indulge in a variety of beef which is imported from Australia and New Zealand. We feasted on beef ribeye, beef blade and beef striploin.
Beef.
Pork bacon and pork belly.
I must admit, the kitchen team did a great job with the marinates. Even the humble chicken is very good.
In case it is going through your mind now that they may have slapped on the same marinate for all the meats, rest assured it wasn’t so.
The seafood were left bare except for a drizzle of sauce over them; which was a good thing for these are so fresh they didn’t need any embellishments.
Should the marinate be too mild for you, you can always enhance your food with the dips; ponzu, ROCKU’s chilli sauce and spicy miso.
In my opinion, this eat all you want buffet (lunch at RM39.90++ per person and buffet dinner at RM49.90++ per person) is one of the best buffet deal in town at the moment.
Instead of serving anything and everything on the spread, ROCKU Yakiniku focuses only on premium ingredients.
For beef there are ribeye, sirloin and striploin.
The PORK selection includes pork belly, bacon and collar.
Fan of seafood will rejoice with succulent butter fish, salmon, squids, BIG prawns, mussels, SCALLOPS (my favorite) and shishamo (pregnant fish).
If that isn’t enough, there are lamb, chicken, desserts, raw vegetables and miso soup.
The best part?
No worries about smoky attire or hair, because ROCKU’s charcoal grills are smokeless.
I can attest to that as the whole restaurant was smoke-free though it was full house that evening. My hair and dress didn’t have any lingering smoke smell either after I left.
This was definitely one of my absolutely satisfying and unbelievably good-value-meal that I have had in a while.
I’ll definitely be back with my gym mates who are always on the lookout for a good quality protein meal! 😀
So there you go, if you’re seeking a satisfying and reasonably meal in town, ROCKU Yakiniku certainly deserves serious consideration!
