There used to be a time when the PWTC LRT station was primarily synonymous with Putra World Trade Center, one of KL’s biggest and busiest international convention and trade centre.

Today, the PWTC station also provides accessibilty to the newly refurbished lifestyle Sunway Putra Mall which offers 8 levels of shopping floors covering fashion, digital, food, home and living and groceries.

In additonal to Selera Street food court, I counted over 50 food and beverages outlets within Sunway Putra Mall so grabbing a bite in air conditioned comfort is an easy choice.
Aside from the usual chain restaurants, notable unique outlets to look out are the DC Comics Superheroes Café and Taste Better.

This cafe transport you to DC Comics universe and comic geeks can enjoy its offerings which are inspired entirely by these characters.

Malaysia’s notorious King of Fruits are banned in most public spaces but durians fans are in for a treat as Taste Better (LG level) offers delectable hand-made freshly baked durian puffs.
These puffs are best consumed whole – take delight in its creamy pungency flooding your mouth while you savour both buttery puff with rich durian cream.

Stepping out from the comforts of the mall and just a stroll away from the PWTC station are a few mamak (Indian Muslim) restaurants where one can enjoy piping hot tandoori chicken and crispy roti pratha for less than RM10.

Following a tip from a friend, I went in search of Restoran Ar-Raudhah (formerly ‘Kahk’) for an authentic Middle Eastern meal.
According to him, the food is fair in terms of price, portion and taste.

The off-menu Chicken Pikle was a recommendation of our server so we went along with it plus another Lamb Mendy. I added a salad since both mains were lacking in fibre.
The rice was delicious; loose aromatic grains and the spices well balanced. The lamb chunk were a tad chewy but I was informed that it is meant to be such.
We enjoyed the Chicken Pikle the most; an interesting medley of sweet, sourish and midly spicy.

Another Middle Eastern restaurant within this vicinity is Hyderabad Recipes. This outlet on Jalan Putra is one of the four outlets throughout the Klang Valley and their specialties are Hyderabad style biryanis and breads.

During lunch, Cameleon Vegetarian Restaurant proved to be a popular choice, making up for the lack of meat with diverse varieties of mock meat, seafood, vegetables, bean products and noodles dishes in both Chinese and other Asian flavours.

Right at the corner where Jalan Putra turns into Jalan Raja Laut Kedai Kopi Tai Kong offers the ubiquitous hawker food with the economy rice and chicken rice being most popular.
I’ve been here for 3 years,” the seller who declined to be named said as he chopped my chicken.
We operate daily from 10am to 3pm and for the evenings this same stall sells mixed pork soup,” he added.

I have tried both Tai Kong and Soon Soon chicken rice and my preference goes to Soon Soon Chicken Rice which is a humble shack beside Hotel Kita.
I recommend having a trio of chicken, duck and roast pork and if you’re dining in, be sure to add a bowl of their salted vegetables soup.
Soon Soon Chicken Rice operates from 6am – 2pm daily, except Sundays.

Another option for economy rice can be found at CK Mix Rice or for pork-free dining, Mek Tomyam offers over 20 dishes plus freshly grilled chicken and seafood, local “bakar” style.
The ulam (raw vegetables salad) is great with sambal. An East Coast dish called Nasi Dagang is available for lunch. Open daily from 7am – 4am, their nasi lemak is popular for breakfast while tom yam is the preferred choice for night.

If you do not mind the distance, there are more delicous options within the Chow Kit area itself, which is another 15 – 20 minutes walk away.

Last but not least….

My original article is usually longer/ ‘more complete’ since I wrote on and on without restriction.
Understandably, due to space constraints, the original was edited prior to publication. Thus I’ve shared my original article as above.

You may also find that my articles for this Prasarana x Malay Mail x Rebecca Saw series rather diplomatic/non- opinionated, but it is meant to be so as per the brief given.

Anyhow, if you think I’ve missed out on some eateries worth highlighting near any MRT/LRT stations, please let me know! I’ll be sure to go check it out.
Please do be in touch via FB message HERE.

Thank you and I look forward to your suggestions! 🙂

mmmm, ulam … i like! wish we saw local ulam more often at kl’s restaurants and cafes – i think it would be a nice substitute for rocket leaves, etc 🙂

Exactly my thoughts too Sean! Ulam salads would rock!
