McDonalds Chicken Foldover, Horlicks McFlurry and McDonald’s Caramel Sundae!

So THE CHICKEN FOLDOVER is back!

mcdonalds chicken foldover

Finally! A healthy alternative to the otherwise greasy, fattening option which are typical of fast-food chains. I’m not condemning all fast food of course, but frankly for an aging woman (ahem, yes me) who has to watch her diet and weight, I avoid highly processed food as much as possible.
Having said that, if the craving kicks in, I’ll still give in but always opting for the healthiest choice on the menu. But that also means having to go through the hassle of getting weird stares when I use tissues to wipe off the mayo from my burgers.

Yes I do that. Sue me. I have to watch my weight ok? 😀
However, when McD launched their  Chicken Foldover years back, it was a God-sent as it was the only option I’ll settle for whenever my college gang converge at McDs for assignments.

So what’s goes into a McDonald’s Chicken FoldoverTM that makes it “healthier”?
For a start, the patties are grilled. Secondly, there’s more vegetables in a foldover than most of other McDs’ burgers.

·   Two (2) grilled chicken patties with fresh tomato, lettuce & tasty garlic
sauce
·   Toasted flatbread peppered with kalonji seeds
·   Priced from RM8.60 on the a la carte menu onwards.

I saw the annoucement on their FB page few days back and shared the news on my FB. Here’s some of the comments I got.

McD's Chicken Foldover

Frankly, I can’t recall if it’s smaller or otherwise, but the taste is similar.

And I’m still wiping off the mayo. Heck,  it’s tasty enough without it so why add on the calories right? Your thighs will thank you for it! 😀

Being a foodie, I can’t stand not knowing how anything NEW taste, so I took a spoonful of the new McDonald’s Caramel Sundae and instantly regretted it. Well, for anyone needing a sugar rush, THIS IS IT!

Next was their recent Horlicks Crunch McFlurry. Like everyone else, I loved the crunchy bits added into the soft swirl.

Again I only managed one-third of the whole cup. Too sweet again for me but I still like it. So moderation is key. It’s more practical to share it with someone.

As for the new Chicken Muffin, I have tried it too! You can check out my post HERE.

And yes, I wiped off the mayonnaise. Messy, I know.

Well I have to thank McDonalds for keeping the menu fresh with new choices from time to time. I have tried Mcdonalds in Thailand, China, Korea (they have Bulgogi burgers which was delicious!!), HongKong, Australia (Wagyu Beef Burger!), and even while I’m in Singapore last week for World Gourmet Summit 2012, the Teriyaki Chicken Burger!

The Chicken FoldoverTM is now available in all McDonald’s restaurants until 22 August.
It is priced at RM8.60 on the à la carte menu; RM9.95 for a medium McValue Lunch and McValue Dinner sets; while for the medium McValue Meal set it is priced at RM12.25.

So has anyone tried any Mcdonalds burgers anywhere else in the world? Share please?

I like the Chicken Foldover but sometimes I had the feeling that the grilled chicken parties were undercooked. Maybe it’s just me or the patties were slightly cold. I used to like the Chicken Muffin until I got sick of the ‘special sauce’. But they should really do something to their muffins as they are usually dry (need lots of effort to swallow it).

      Undercooked??? Oh my…
The muffin only come for the brekkie sets, and it does get dry once it’s once. So best ot eat it warm!
The special sauce for the Chic Muffin taste like McChicken to me 😛

      1. Chong

Yeah, when it’s cold, the muffin will be dry. And yeah… I think they are of the same type of sauce. LOL.

        Heheh.. recycled!! 😛

Two things that will make me go to the McD are:
    1. Ice cream
    2. Fries

Nuggets and fllet o fish. All time favourites! Double fillet even better!

  4. Kash

Erm, won’t you be better off to ask them to ‘hold’ the mayo when ordering the burger? Saves you wiping it off and also you will get a fresh burger made for you…just a thought Miss Saw.

    1. rebeccasaw

      LOL!
Only if i’m willing to wait 20-30 mins for the next batch. Which I will not. I’ll just grab the ready packed ones.

    1. rebeccasaw

Good to know.. we can be loving it til Aug then! 😀

ooo, i dropped by a mcd’s drive-thru this week and ordered the foldover, but i kinda found the meat a bit too bland and the bread a little too thick. i kinda think kfc’s wraps pack more punch, but i guess it’s a matter of preference…

    1. Chong

Kinda true. That’s where the garlic mayo comes to play. Haha. KFC’s usually counts on the flavouring.

    2. rebeccasaw

      Oh yes!
I agree to that actually. Cos I find the KFC wraps a bit too salty for me. I do tend to prefer milder tasting (as in saltiness/greasiness) food, and I love breads so the bread is perfect for me! Hahha

  6. cleffairy

Darn… not really up to ur taste? I wun mind the sugar rush…and I’ve been dying to eat the foldover…eeepppsss…McD, come to Mama!

    1. rebeccasaw

      hehhe.. i don’t like mayo!
But yes, Horlicks McFlurry and Caramel Sundae is perfect for SUGAR RUSH! 😀

  7. Simple Person

aiyo.. . mayo is the best thing…
my thigh will tell me to go and work out more…… LOL

    1. rebeccasaw

Hahaha! Depends on what exercise..fat that goes too the thighs are hard to shed I tell you! 😛

  8. cw

I had the foldover and sundae caramel, pretty like the foldover, although the idea is quite simple, 2 pieces of meat in between a pita… it taste good.
Sundae caramel, i not so like it.. kind of weird.. still like the sundae green color special edition for Monster Inc.

    1. rebeccasaw

      Hi!!
Hehe, glad you liked the foldover. Yup simple but a good piece of patty minus the grease (still oily but not as much!).
Ohhh the sundae green one, I normally dont eat McD sundaes.. esp those with syrupy toppings.. sweet till can die… -_-

  9. Apple

Why not just order your burgers without the mayo, instead of wiping them off everytime…

    1. rebeccasaw

Because I need to wait for the next batch if I do so, and I dont want to wait! 🙂

  10. Dan

well they have whale burger a year back in McD japan frankly I love it the very first time I took a bite 🙂
but it was taken of the menu due to whaling issue with other countries.

anyway just to inform you (if you din’t already know) McD Malaysia of course is having a coupon now buy 1 foldover free another 1 a la carte only 🙂

    1. rebeccasaw

whaling issue with other countries- hahaha I can imagine it already!
Oh yes, guess what..I just bought two yesterday, on the very first day of the sale! 🙂

Hi Rebecca, i stumbled upon your blog by coincidence and i cant help but leave a comment here.
You are not alone, myself (also an aging woman *LOL*) will also tear chicken skins and wipe of mayonaisse from the burgers (if i am forced to dine at McD).
One option one can choose is to inform the cashier to notify the kitchen to omit those sauces. I always do that and they have been kind to comply to my (additional, weird) request. So i had my chicken foldover last Friday – minus the caloric garlic sauce! 🙂
    Great blog! 🙂

Anyway, if i recall correctly, i think you are my high school senior from St George’s Girls School 🙂

    Thanks & regards,
    SC

    1. rebeccasaw

Hello SC! THANK YOU so much for leaving a comment! apologies for the late response as I was traveling 🙂
But it’s good to know that you’re from Pg too.
btw, I realized a lot of people dab at their food, “squeeze’ oil out of their fried food and wipes away mayo from their burgers. Hahah so we are not the only ones, but it would be hard to find a MALE that would admit to doing that 😛
I would request to omit the mayo, but I didn’t want to wait you see. Furthermore I always tapau, so I usually park illegally before hopping into Mcd!
