HTC One Launch in Pavilion KL, Malaysia

The HTC One WORLDWIDE launch was today, at Pavilion KL and moi was there to assess if the whole brouhaha about the HTC One was justified.

htc one launch

Yes I’m sceptical and you can’t blame me. I have been to almost all gadgets launches lately and had reviewed most of them. None has made me lost any sleep nor has it made me felt that I need to own it..

The HTC One was something else. To me, I see it as HTC has finally bounced back with a winner device.

htc one launch-012

Ok, I’m saying this purely from what I have witnessed today at the launch. The feel of the HTC One in my hands was pleasant enough and the solidness of its built got my attention.

htc one launch-019

It remained light for its weight and the camera…now I get what’s all the fuss about…

htc one launch-017

“We are very focused on creating an invaluable camera and audio experience that is user-friendly, so customers will love using it and we believe the HTC One series will deliver this” said Lennard Hoornik, President of HTC South Asia Pacific.

The HTC One is the FIRST AND ONLY phone that allows user to take video and capture pictures simultaneously. Frankly, I would buy the phone just for that purpose!
And HTC is so confident of their latest baby that they include NAMES of other smartphones in their presentation slides.

Not just beating other smartphones flat, the HTC One camera daringly challenges compact and DSLRs cameras too!

Ok, I admit that I totally neglected the HTC One V. It’s just too entry level for me.

htc one launch-007

So yes, back to HTC One X.
How is it possible that the HTC One boasts of such superior camera?
It all lies in the ImageSense in the HTC One that includes improvements to every part of the camera; lens, sensor, the software and even integrating a new custom HTC ImageChip.

htc one launch-020

These enhancements combine to deliver fastest image capture, best image quality under adverse conditions and easiest interface that enables quick access to capturing stills and videos with side-by-side video capture buttons.

htc one launch-010

I can’t wait to test this baby out for myself and I’m waiting for my review unit. Meanwhile there’s a lot on the audio that I haven’t touched on here but I’m just a lot more excited on the camera and phone functions versus the audio as I NEVER use my phone to play music at all. Can’t afford to drain the battery you see! :DD

htc one launch-013

Innovative Media Link HD Display.

This allows users to enjoy any form of high definition multimedia on TV effortlessly with one easy swipe to transfer what’s playing on their phone  to the tV screen wirelessly. Simultaneously, you can surf the internet and check your emails on your phone.

The HTC One X retails for RM2099 while the HTC One V is RM999.

htc one launch-011

So do head to Pavilion KL for the next few days to test the HTC One series out!
I did played with one for while and the camera is amazing. The HTC One dramatically reduces the time it takes to capture shots; for example in just 0.7 ses you’re able to take a shot, and with the superfast 0.2 secs autofocus, once can continue to take unlimited continuous shots by simply holding the shutter button.

Am surprised by the Camera specs :O. Looks like a potential upgrade from my S2. Or maybe wait for the next iteration.

    1. rebeccasaw

So far I have been very impressed with the S2 cam too. This one seems to have take nthat capability in smartphones up another notch!
However, I been hearing gd stuffs abt the Lumia and Sony Xperia.. so hhmm.. can’t tell till I judged all…

  5. Elaine

Am thinking to get a new phone and this comes up! Becky, can’t wait for your review on the phone itself! Might grab one if it’s real good! *wink*

    1. rebeccasaw

Yups.. it’s lookng good so far.
Now to test an actual unit so I can tell for sure…

  6. Kevin Tan

The performance of the OS is really good, compared to the HTC Sensation’s Sense. Responsiveness is at top notch, even if it’s a One X or One V. So I guess people with low budget can go for One V actually.

    1. rebeccasaw

      Yup!
Very responsive and zippy. The camera.. oh the camera! I guess one has to be a blogger to appreciate the camera. LOL.. can’t live without my ultrabook or my cam!

  7. ulric

For me, I will wait for HTC One S…uses the same camera as One X and it’s the slimmest (7.8mm) among the HTC One series…true it’s only dual-core and has a smaller 4.3″ Super AMOLED screen…but current phone software are unoptimised for quad-core….by d time they r optimised I can get a new model de…hehe =)

    1. rebeccasaw

Ahhh.. I see. And HTC One S will be cheaper too!

    2. BABA

haven u got your HTC 1 S? is it nice?

  8. Isaac Tan

Wow, for you to speak so highly of this smartphone, it has to be really awesome. I’m intrigued by the fact HTC was so confident to put the phone against heavy weights such as DSLRs and the likes. Looking forward to your review one HTC One X Rebecca.

    1. rebeccasaw

I’m looking forward to getting a unit for myself as well as a review unit!

  9. Jack Lee

Impatietly waiting for your full review! 🙂

    1. rebeccasaw

I’m waiting impatiently for a review unit!!!

  10. Jack Lee

Did it ever felt TOO big for one handed use? I have the Galaxy Nexus and it feels like it’s pushing the size boundaries already….

    1. rebeccasaw

Hhmm… how to use one hand? I think must both hands lor.. like most smartphones nowadays…

  11. Eggie

    Nice write-up Rebecca!

Seems like the moment I decided to jump ship from Nokia onto HTC is a decision I’ve made with no regrets 🙂

The OneX makes my Sensation XE looks tardy in comparison, even with ICS recently installed. XD

    Thanks again.

    1. rebeccasaw

      Hi Eggie!
Thhk you thk you for your kind comments & visting my blog 🙂
Oh yes, Android still beats Win7 (or Win7.5).
And One X certainly has improved from the Sensation, Rhyme etc range!

    1. rebeccasaw

Specs different lor! So must go try and see first ok?

  12. Alien

Hi.Can anybody tell me when hts one S will be launched in Malaysia?

    1. rebeccasaw

Hi Noshin. No one knows for sure but it could be 1-2 months down the road as the hype now is on the HTC X.

      1. Noushin

thanks so much rebecca.I hope it comes sooner.

      2. rebeccasaw

Yes, I know what you mean, a friend of mine told me that the HTC S is actually just as good, and cheaper. Is that why you’re aiming for that instead?

  14. Noushin

    Yeah exactly

  15. Noushin

Rebecca what is your estimation for htc one S price? and has it been launched in Singapore?

    1. rebeccasaw
