Hong Kong es-capers: Novotel Century, Hong Kong – a short review

After a night stay at Novotel Hong Kong, Nathan Road Kowloon, we were shuttled over to Novotel Century, Hong Kong for Day 2 of the Hong Kong es-capers race.

Like I had said, I had wanted to keep my review to both hotels in one post, but it did got a bit long to scroll, so here’s the 2nd part of it. While the Novotel Hong Kong, Nathan Road is in Kowloon, Novotel Century Hong Kong is in Hong Kong island itself.

Novotel Century Hong Kong offers 511 modern rooms in the heart of Wanchai, the bustling commercial, entertainment district surrounded by restaurants and pubs. Just a short walk away are the the shopping area and the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre.
The nearest subway is WanChai MRT station.

The busy lobby and the stairs goes up to AK’S Lounge, looking down onto the streets of Wanchai.

Sip a bubbly and sit to watch over the lively streets below, best time would be at night.

This time I got to check in below sundown. So you will be seeing much better pictures than the ones at Novotel Hong Kong, Nathan Road Kowloon. Even the video turned out better!

Similarly to Novotel Hong Kong, Nathan Road Kowloon, you do not need to touch your keycard to any sensor at the lift to access your room floor. Entry to the room is via the sensor (good!), not the common slot in card type which I hate because the door usually doesn’t open on the first try.

The first thing that got my attention as I stepped into the room was that this hotel seems newer and cheerier than Novotel Nathan Road. That, and the VIEW.

It is still located within the city with buildings everywhere in your face, but at the far horizon I saw water.

Novotel Century rooms are light, bright, airy and fresh. I was in the Standard Room, which offers a Queen bed or 2 Single beds, en suite bath AND a BATHTUB, work desk, TV with pay movies and broadband or WiFi Internet.
Apparently there is a pillow menu as well (based on their website) but when I called the reception that evening, I was told there are none. Rollaway beds are available on request.

Bedside tables, reading lights, a chair, workdesk, minibar, iron, safe, laundry bag, slippers and dress robe are some of the standard amenities.

I tried opening the door and found a mattress stowed away. Initially I had thought it was an adjoining door to another room!

The powerpoints are hidden and located only at the workdesk. There isn’t many power outlets in this room and needless to say, I didn’t quite like that aspect.

Unfortunately I don’t drink coffee, else this would have been god-sent – a Nespresso machine with ready pods!

The shower had the exact same amenities as Novotel Hong Kong, Nathan Road Kowloon; environmental-friendly and gentle on the skin.

LE CAFÉ, its coffeehouse offers breakfast and it starts at 6.30am. Another restaurant is the Italian PEPINOS CUCINA ITALIANA. 2 restaurants and a bar (AK Lounge) makes up the hotel’s F & B offerings.

The coffeehouse is big, offering many different sections for dining.

It is my luck or people in Hong Kong are just very friendly? This table of gentlemen insisted that I take a picture of them so they had happily posed for me! 😀

As for the food, ample variety and decent flavours should fill the stomach adequately for the start of another day.

Say hi to the GM of Novotel Century, Hong Kong, Mr Jerome! 😀

There is a spa, Premier Lounge (just like in Novotel Nathan Road) and meeting rooms here as well, but really, I was in this hotel for barely 24 hours so I couldn’t check everything out. Based on my short stay, it’s apparent that Novotel Century offers a great location and warm service. Food is decent. Wi-Fi is available in the rooms and complimentary in the lobby, all restaurants and the executive lounge.

    Congrats again your win Rebecca!
I wonder if the Novotel here in KL has similar layout, design and concept?
The KL Novotel doesn’t seem very famous or popular. Have not heard of its dining outlets, been to any events there nor any reviews of its room.

  2. Kriz

Trying to catch up on your recent trips dear. Been away myself. Anyway, it’s great to see you had fun at the race & congrats in winning!!

  3. Annabelle

My parents stayed in Novotel KL when it 1st opened. I don’t recall it being as nice as the HK ones you stayed in.

  4. Mabel

wonder if the complimentary wine and chocs are included all the time?

  5. Marcus

lol this is probably the least crowded place in HK that i have seen

I concur. Novotel is a good choice in HK. A fair balance between comfort and price.

  10. Heena

Rebecca, I can’t thank you enough. I’ve booked this hotel for my forthcoming trip this month and I was wondering if I’d made the right choice. Thanks to you I now feel I know the hotel and what to expect. No unpleasant surprises. What a relief.
