Excellent pork ribs @ Ampersand, Damansara Uptown (previously Ecole P)

So there was this topic going around about the best pork ribs in KL/PJ (or should I say the Klang Valley?).
I’ve actually shortlisted my own list of which some I’ve tried, some I haven’t. The ones that I haven’t tried are in fact the ones I wanted to try, but all in due time.
There’s only that many ribs one can eat in a month.

We are looking at the prices of RM25 – RM50/half ribs and RM45 – RM120/full ribs.
So far this is the list I’ve got.
1. Ribs at Burgeon
2. Nambawan
3. Naughty Babe Dirty Duck
4. Red Kettle @ Taman Desa
5. Sausage & Ribs Shack (Cheras)
6. Morganfields
7. Naughty Nuri’s
8. Recommendations?

In my quest for the best pork ribs (beef ribs, move aside) in town, I’ve been asking around for recommendations.
So if anyone want to join me for pork ribs do drop me a message on FB!

Meanwhile these ribs from Ampersand by Culinary Rebels were excellent. RM26 +5% service charge for each half a rack (imported swine too) is well worth the price.
The portion is generous, the meat tasty and fell-off-bone tender. Texture of the meat is spot on as well, pleasantly soft but still providing a good chew.
For RM26, I have absolutely no complaints. Heck, you can’t even get decent pasta for that price!
And here we have a good quality rack of ribs that is adeptly cooked and a mighty fine one too!

Sambal Ribs – a local twist to it with a salty, sweet watery (Kelantan budu sauce if I’m not mistaken) dip. RM26.

Cacao Ribs – Crusty cacao coating on the outside, tender meat strips on the inside. RM26.
This is the one that I would recommend. It sounds funky yes, but totally finger-licking good.

Deep fried, that explains the crusty crunch of the outer layer and if you are as worried about grease as I am (this being deep fried and all), well, lay your worries to rest as it wasn’t greasy but you get to enjoy all the crunch that comes with stuff that are deep fried.
The sauce is lovely really.
To be frank it wasn’t exactly strong on the cacao flavour but it was an interesting sauce and such a refreshing change from the usual sickly sweet or BBQ ones.

That is not to say you can have your BBQ sauce ribs. Ampersand’s team makes the sauces used from scratch and judging from both the ribs we enjoyed that evening, I daresay the BBQ sauce would be finger-licking good too.

We were there for tea and stayed for dinner.
There was no Affogato (RM10) on the menu, but our request for one was met without much preamble.
My RM9.00+ iced cappuccino satisfied my caffeine urge and fueled my brains for the next hour as I worked furiously away on my laptop.
The space here is small but cosy enough and there are sunlight streaming in from outside.
I would enjoy sitting out on the “balcony” if the sun wasn’t so merciless, but it is good to know there is an outdoor option should there be a need for it.
WIFI works and the service is good, especially when Steven himself is around. That guy really does understand customer service.

Our bill came up to a total of RM93.45 and it was one of the most satisfying amount spent at a cafe since 2015.
Food was great, dessert (the one I ordered) was gratifying, coffee is good and service and ambiance was overall satisfactory.

Yes I would recommend Ampersand as one of the better cafes in Damansara Uptown. And trust me, I’ve been to most of them here.
Oh, you can read about the 10 cafes (soft serve, gelato) compilation that I’ve posted earlier –> https://www.rebeccasaw.com/10-ice-creambingsusoft-serve-cafes-in-uptown-damansara-sangkaya-the-ais-every-sundae-hails-softserve-villa-ju-bakery-bingsu/

Amps Indulgence – RM18.

      Neither have I! 😀
But it’s all good, for the Ampersand’s menu is much better!
